Element Science, Inc. is a medical device and digital health company focused on developing solutions at the intersection of clinical-grade wearables, machine learning algorithms, and lifesaving therapies in order to address leading causes of death and hospitalization in patients with heart disease, primarily as they transition from the hospital-to-home. By putting the needs of patients and physicians first, our personalized digital devices, which are designed for function, comfort, and ease-of-use, aim to redefine the paradigm of care for these patients. Our first product, a wearable patch defibrillator, is initially targeted at treating the more than 500,000 patients in the US with an elevated temporary risk of potentially experiencing a lethal heart rhythm. SUMMARY OF ROLE:
The Senior Manager of IT Operations & Security is responsible for daily IT operations, including IT Helpdesk services, network infrastructure management, IT System administration and supporting information security initiatives. This is initially a hands-on role requiring direct technical work across all areas, with the expectation of building and leading a team of IT professionals as the organization grows. The successful candidate will ensure reliable, secure, and efficient technology services that support business operations and drive organizational success.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
IT Help Desk & Support Services:
- Initially provide direct technical support and help desk services while establishing standardized processes and procedures
- Develop help desk operations framework, including ticketing systems, escalation procedures, and performance metrics
- As the team grows, recruit, train, and manage help desk technicians to ensure timely resolution of user issues and high customer satisfaction
- Establish and monitor help desk performance metrics, including ticket resolution times, first-call resolution rates, and user satisfaction
- Create comprehensive documentation and knowledge base for future team members
- Oversee end-user training and technology adoption initiatives
Network & Infrastructure Management:
- Perform hands-on management of network infrastructure, including servers, switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless systems
- Implement network monitoring strategies and directly troubleshoot issues to minimize downtime and optimize performance
- Execute network upgrades, patches, and maintenance with minimal business impact
- Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation and standard operating procedures for future team scaling
- As operations expand, recruit and train network administrators and infrastructure specialists
Security Support & Compliance:
- Collaborate with security teams to implement and maintain IT security policies and procedures
- Assist in security incident response and vulnerability remediation efforts
- Ensure compliance with company security standards and regulatory requirements
- Support security awareness training and best practices adoption
Team Leadership & Operations:
- Initially operate as hands-on individual contributor while establishing operational frameworks and procedures
- As the department expands, recruit, hire, and onboard IT staff (helpdesk technicians, network administrators, specialists)
- Manage IT Operations team budget, vendor relationships, and technology procurement
Planning & Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with emerging technologies and recommend improvements to leadership
- Research and evaluate new tools and technologies to streamline operations and improve efficiency
- Develop disaster recovery and business continuity plans
- Lead IT projects that align with business objectives and track operational effectiveness
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or related field
- 8-10+ years of hands-on IT experience with demonstrated technical proficiency across help desk, networking, security, and infrastructure
- 3 - 5 years experience in managing people, ideally with demonstrated ability to build and scale technical teams
- Experience working in both individual contributor and supervisory capacities
- Expert knowledge of Windows and Mac operating systems and administration
- Strong understanding of network protocols, TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and network security principles
- Experience with security appliances and management (Sophos, SonicWall, firewalls)
- Proficiency with cloud storage and collaboration platforms (Box, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365)
- Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
- Familiarity with ITIL framework and IT service management best practices
- Knowledge of information security frameworks and compliance requirements
- Experience with network monitoring and management tools
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking and decision-making skills
- Proven leadership abilities with experience managing technical teams
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to present to executives
- Strong customer service orientation and conflict resolution skills
- Project management experience with ability to manage multiple priorities
- Relevant IT certifications (CompTIA, Microsoft, Cisco, ITIL, etc.)
- Experience with identity and access management (Okta) and mobile device management (Jamf)
- Experience with enterprise-level infrastructure and 24/7 operations
- Background in regulated industries or compliance environments

The salary for this exempt-level position will be based on experience and qualifications within an established pay range.

Salary Range: $160,000 - $170,000 + Stock Options
