Who You Are: 

The Chief Risk Officer (CRO) is a strategic executive responsible for establishing and leading a comprehensive enterprise risk management program. This leader will ensure that TabaPay and its money transmitter license operations meet all regulatory requirements while enabling business growth and innovation. The CRO will build and oversee the risk, compliance, fraud, and (potentially) data privacy and IT/security policy functions. 

What You’ll Do: 

Enterprise Risk Management & Strategy

  • Build and scale the risk and compliance organization to support corporate goals, including revenue growth and regulatory milestones.
  • Design a risk framework that supports innovation within a regulated environment, enabling rapid market entry while adhering to approved compliance and security policies.
  • Ensure the company and its affiliates operate at a risk level consistent with the expectations of the Federal Reserve (BHC), OCC (Bank), and state regulators (MTL).

Policy Development & Governance

  • Lead creation, modification, and corporate approval of all key risk-related policies, including:
    • Fraud
    • Data Protection and Privacy
    • BSA/AML
    • Credit Risk
    • Board and Employee Training
    • Third-Party and Vendor Risk
    • Change Management and Product Risk Oversight
  • Determine ownership and scope of IT and Security policies in collaboration with the CTO and ISO; if owned, oversee policy development while the CTO leads implementation.

Regulatory Readiness & Audit Management

  • Lead efforts related to regulatory exams, including the Federal Reserve’s prefiling inspection and future OCC and state examinations.
  • Ensure successful completion of all audits, including:
    • SOC 1 & 2 Type II
    • PCI
    • ACH Compliance
    • BSA/AML (MTL)
    • Financial Audits (Processor, MTL, Bank)

Bank Readiness & Merchant Onboarding

  • Develop and align bank and processing account opening policies with regulatory expectations for key merchant categories:
    • Bank and state-licensed lenders
    • Program managers for account funding
    • Licensed money transmitters (crypto, remittance, cross-border)

Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing team, including:
    • BSA/Compliance
    • Fraud Management
  • Partner with executive leadership to embed risk awareness across the company and participate actively in product development and change management discussions.

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of senior risk, compliance, or audit leadership experience in financial services, preferably with both fintech and regulated banking environments.
  • Deep knowledge of federal and state regulatory frameworks (e.g., OCC, Federal Reserve, FinCEN, state MTLs).
  • Demonstrated ability to design risk management structures that enable speed while meeting stringent regulatory requirements.
  • Experience supporting audits and regulatory examinations (e.g., SOC, PCI, BSA/AML, financial audits).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to operate strategically while diving into details when necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with FedNow, RTP, ACH, cross-border payments, and merchant acquiring risk.
  • Familiarity with OCC charter acquisition processes and regulatory expectations.
  • Knowledge of data protection laws (e.g., GLBA, CCPA, GDPR) and their application to financial institutions.

The base pay for this position is $200,000 - $250,000; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered. This position is located in our Palo Alto, CA HQ.
