About Laurel

Boost your firm's profitability with Laurel. Our thoughtfully designed timekeeping solution, with real AI, turns every minute worked into clear, actionable billing and insight. Make financially sound decisions with ease, predict trends, and navigate your firm's future with confidence.

Job Description

We’re a team that is connected by time. Life has taught us its true value and finite nature. We value every minute and are on a mission to return time. And we live and breathe that mission in everything we do — from how we build our product that saves our customers time to how we operate as a company.

Come work with a team that’s intelligent yet humble, visionary yet gets things done. A team that’s only getting started at cracking a problem that affects every person who uses a screen to work.

Come build a company that will stand the test of time as we look to understand time itself.

We all waste a staggering amount of time at work (~33%) because we have no idea where we are spending it. Worse yet, we continue to operate in a factory model that simply does not apply to creative work. Our big bet is that by understanding time, we’ll be able to move away from it as a unit of value. In the future knowledge economy (lawyers, accountants, engineers), contributions will be assessed on value added, not the underlying time spent adding it.

Ambitious mission to say the least, so where are we starting? We have created a new market category called Time Automation that automates the timekeeping process for professionals and allows us to collect time data at scale. Before Laurel, professionals had to manually record every six minutes of their day into antiquated timekeeping software. Not anymore. We are moving away from a world in which humans tell a machine what they did at work, to our version of the world in which the machine tells the human.

We are looking for individuals who share our passion of returning time. Come join us on our journey as we spend time solving time.  It will be a long road but if we’re even half right, we’ll change the way work is measured and performed forever.

Why You Should Be Excited About Laurel:

  • First-Mover Advantage: We stand as the global first movers in applying AI to time within professional services.

  • Expertise in Technology and Domain: Our experience encompasses the development and deployment of AI tools tailored for professional services over many learnings.

  • World-Class Team: We've assembled a team consisting of some of the foremost talents in AI, product development, and engineering within the tech industry.

  • Exceptional Investor Support: To date, we've secured $55 million in funding from renowned venture capitalists worldwide, as well as notable individuals like Marc Benioff and Gokul Rajaram.

  • Mission-Driven Organization: Our overarching mission revolves around restoring time to the global community, empowering individuals to focus on the three hours of impactful work each day while giving the remainder back to society.

  • Laurel’s AI-Time software has applications across many different verticals — with our initial foothold being enterprises in the professional services industry. This is a complex product that requires AI, a simple yet intuitive user experience, an agent and cloud-based integrations to capture a professional’s digital footprint, and integrations into firms’ billing and accounting systems.

Staff Product Designer

We’re hiring a Staff Product Designer to help shape the future of enterprise software in an AI-native company. Laurel transforms how professional services firms manage time. We’re building powerful tools for the operations and admin teams behind the scenes. These users work with complexity daily and deserve tools that are as thoughtful as they are powerful.

This role is about bringing clarity to complexity. You’ll design systems that feel intuitive, communicate your thinking with confidence and care, and collaborate across teams to move work forward with purpose.

It’s an exciting time to be a designer in AI—so much is opening up in the enterprise space. If you’re drawn to big challenges, energized by thoughtful collaboration, and ready to help us run toward this next chapter, we’d love to meet you.

This role is hybrid, based in the San Francisco Bay Area, with three days a week in the office for in-person collaboration.

Skills

Design for enterprise professional services firms

You’ll translate complexity into simplicity. Designing for enterprise customers (legal, accounting, consulting, etc.) requires clarity and confidence — handling edge cases, long-tail workflows, and advanced configuration needs. You’ll zoom out to think systemically and zoom in to sweat the details. Experience designing for legal, accounting, or compliance-heavy domains is a bonus.

Bring clarity to communication

At Laurel, great design decisions are backed with data and pragmatic conviction. You’ll bring a measured rationale to your work—rooted in user research, design principles, and iteration—and communicate it without overcomplicating.

Be a partner in AI design

Laurel is an AI-native company. You don’t need experience designing AI-powered products, but you do need a strong point of view on where UX and AI are headed—and curiosity about what’s possible. You’ll collaborate closely with our AI team to design smart, intuitive interactions that help users feel in control.

Lead end-to-end

From early research to polished UI, you’ll own the design process: synthesizing needs, creating flows and wireframes, prototyping, validating with users, and supporting implementation.

Build trust across the team

Success at Laurel isn’t just about output—it’s about how you show up. You’re kind and collaborative, the type of teammate who builds strong relationships and momentum. You bring energy and initiative to ambiguous moments, and you treat every cross-functional conversation as a design opportunity.

Must Haves

The following are our non-negotiables for candidates:

  • 5+ years of product design experience at early stage, fast-moving startups (Series B–F preferred).

  • 5+ years designing complex B2B enterprise SaaS applications.

  • Demonstrated experience designing and shipping end-to-end experiences with lots of moving parts, edge cases, and configuration needs.

  • Strong UX and UI craft—rooted in research, systems thinking, and crisp interaction design.

  • Experience working closely with PMs, engineers, and subject matter experts to ship high-quality work.

  • Comfort with user research, interviews, and feedback loops with professional users.

  • Skilled in Figma with a portfolio that shows strong UX reasoning, IA/taxonomy, B2B workflows, and a sensibility for visual design (layout, typography, color, imagery).

  • Deep interest in how professionals work—and the tools they need to work well.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Kind, curious, and driven. You bring people in.

Nice to Haves

These are qualities of a standout candidate and would make this role a perfect fit:

  • Experience designing for legal, accounting, compliance, or similar regulated domains.

  • Experience with data-heavy tools or systems.

  • Familiarity with or curiosity about AI product design (including conversational UIs, automation, or assistive workflows).

  • Experience evolving or contributing to design systems.

  • Strong storytelling or facilitation skills in collaborative settings.

Flexibility and Logistics:

  • Location: This role will be hybrid and based at our office in San Francisco at least 3 days per week.

  • Additional Benefits: Comprehensive medical/dental/vision coverage with covered premiums, 401(k), and additional benefits including wellness/commuter/FSA stipends.

  • Visa Sponsorship: Unfortunately we are unable to sponsor visas at this time.

  • Compensation: Competitive salary, generous equity, comprehensive medical/dental/vision coverage with covered  premiums, 401(k), additional benefits including wellness/commuter/FSA stipends; For candidates located in New York and California, the range for this role is $180,000 to $240,000 USD. Final compensation amounts will be determined based on several factors including candidate experience, technical qualifications and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed.

  • What happens if my kid or I are sick on a workday? Take all the time you need! We’ll cover for you. And send you some soup.

Laurel's Commitment: We encourage diverse perspectives and rigorous thinkers who aren't afraid to challenge the status quo. Laurel is an equal-opportunity employer committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
