As a member of the engineering and technology organization, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team of scientists and engineers whose mission is to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems. You’ll be a technical contributor on the team responsible for ablation, ionization, and loading of Barium ions in our quantum computers.
Responsibilities:
- Experimentally characterize the ablation performance of novel Barium targets
- Collaborate with external partners in novel materials development projects for ion generation
- Partner with our internal ion trap and packaging team on opto-mechanical design improvements for laser ablation and ionization
- Propose and implement improvements to rapid ion chain loading to extend to hundreds of qubits
You’d be a good fit with:
- PhD in physics, physical chemistry, optics, or related field, with deep knowledge of experimental atomic physics
- 3+ years of professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience designing, characterizing and operating laser-cooled neutral atom or ion experiments
- Demonstrated experimental experience with one or more of the following specialities: laser ablation, atomic beams, photoionization, ion trapping, or cryogenics
- Excellent written communication skills in technical documentation
You’d be a great fit with:
- Experience working with surface-electrode ion traps and measurements on trapped ions
- Experience with laser ablation for production of vaporized atomic or molecular species
- Expertise in chemistry, metallurgy, or materials science
- Engineering or systems engineering experience in transforming a complex physical system into a product based on subsystem technical requirements
