Job Description

Are you a hands-on architect who thrives on solving real-world problems, regardless of the tech stack? Do you enjoy building scalable, resilient systems and mentoring teams, while staying pragmatic and street-smart in your approach? At Norstella, we are looking for an Architect who brings deep engineering expertise, an agnostic view of technology, and a strong sense of ownership and accountability to accelerate our product innovation.

As an Architect, you will work across product lines, engineering squads, and platform teams to drive architectural decisions, ensure technical excellence, and solve complex business challenges through simple, scalable, and secure solutions.
Education: Minimum bachelor’s degree in computer science and engineering or related field of study, or equivalent experience

Key Responsibilities

Design and architect end-to-end solutions across systems with scalability, security, and performance in mind.
Be hands-on when needed: build proof-of-concepts, debug live issues, and review code and design.
Evaluate and recommend tech stacks agnostically based on problem-fit, not hype.
Partner with engineering leads and product managers to define architecture roadmaps, solution patterns, and best practices.
Act as a technical mentor and problem-solver, bringing clarity and pragmatic solutions under ambiguity. Provide technical leadership and guidance to software development teams.
Monitor system performance and make necessary adjustments to optimize efficiency.
Drive non-functional requirements like observability, address vulnerabilities, disaster recovery, and high availability across platforms.
Create and maintain clear technical documentation and communicate trade-offs with stakeholders.
Challenge the status quo and influence engineering culture with Norstella’s core values.

Qualifications

Technical Expertise
Proficiency in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) for deploying scalable healthcare data solutions.
Fluent in at least two programming languages (e.g., Node.js, Java, Python, C#).
Strong foundation in design patterns, system design, and distributed architecture.
Advanced SQL skills for optimizing queries across distributed databases.
Experience with big data tools (Spark, Hadoop) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch) and MLOps pipelines.
Domain Knowledge
Deep understanding of healthcare data standards: ICD-10, CPT codes, HL7, FHIR.
Knowledge of drug development phases, market access dynamics, and/or pharmaceutical domain.
Good to have experience with RWD, real-world evidence generation and regulatory submissions (e.g., FDA RWE guidance).
Soft Skills
Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, including C-suite executives.
Strong problem-solving skills to balance computational efficiency with clinical relevance.
Leadership in mentoring junior engineers and fostering innovation within agile teams.
