We are looking for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer specializing in New Product Introduction (NPI). As a Manufacturing Engineer specializing in New Product Introduction (NPI), you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems. In this role, you will serve as a critical link between our design and production teams. Your primary responsibility will be to ensure a seamless transition from product design to full-scale manufacturing, facilitating the introduction of new products into our production environment.
Responsibilities:
- Leverage expertise in New Product Introduction (NPI) to seamlessly transition our quantum computer products from prototype to production, optimizing manufacturability and supply chain scalability.
- Collaborate with design engineers to provide Design for Manufacturability (DFM) feedback, ensuring products are optimized for efficient manufacturing processes.
- Engage in design reviews and the examination of deliverables necessary for a Technical Data Package.
- Apply Configuration Management best practices to hardware designs.
- Lead the prototyping of new products, working hands-on to build and test initial quantum computers.
- Develop and document manufacturing processes, including detailed assembly instructions, inspection plans and standard operating procedures.
- Design and implement custom tooling and fixtures to support production needs.
- Facilitate training sessions for production staff, ensuring a thorough understanding of new processes and products.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, quality assurance, and supply chain teams to resolve manufacturing challenges.
- Continuously assess and improve manufacturing processes to enhance efficiency, quality, and scalability.
- Own a portion or all of the manufacturing value chain for a subsystem or set of subsystems.
- Develop process flows, breaking down large, complex assemblies into a logical build flow of subassemblies and sub-processes.
You’d be a good fit with:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, with a focus on low-volume, high-mix production environments.
- The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, analytic, detail-oriented, possesses quantitative analysis skills, is self-motivated, a great team member, able to proactively communicate with employees at all levels, delivering excellence in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in CAD software for designing tooling and fixtures.
- Experience with complex optical systems, lasers, free-space optical systems and components, and vacuum systems.
- Experience developing comprehensive assembly instructions and other manufacturing documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
- Hands-on experience building prototypes and transitioning products from design to production.
- Experience designing and implementing custom manufacturing tools and fixtures.
- Experience in implementation, use or configuration of PLM systems.
- Experience in implementation, use or configuration of ERP/MRP/MES systems.
- Experience transforming R&D prototypes into highly reproducible products.
- Collaboration with cross-functional development teams including engineering, research, and development
- Ability to be on-site daily.
You’d be a great fit with:
- General knowledge of complex optical, electrical or mechanical products and systems.
- Experience in the quantum computing industry or related high-tech fields.
- Specific experience with semiconductors, optics, photonics components, opto-electronic modules, vacuum assemblies, or cryogenic systems.
- Experience/success in interacting with suppliers directly. Demonstrated collaboration during supply chain sourcing, fostering partnerships for critical hardware development and risk reduction activities.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly an applied ability to work well with customers, suppliers, and in a close-knit team environment.
- Ability to act independently to uncover and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of operational programs and factories and/or supplier health development.
- Optical Alignment process experience, including experience in aligning lenses, mirrors, prisms, and opto-electronic/opto-mechanical components on an optical breadboard.
