About HashiCorp

At HashiCorp, we believe infrastructure enables innovation, and we are helping organizations to operate that infrastructure in the cloud. Our suite of multi-cloud infrastructure automation products — all with open source projects at their core — underpin the most important applications for the largest enterprises in the world.

Job Description

About HashiCorp Design

We build the Infrastructure Cloud which allows enterprises to take a unified approach to Infrastructure and Security Lifecycle Management:

Infrastructure Lifecycle Management: Build / Deploy / Manage

  • Terraform allows you to use infrastructure as code to provision and manage any infrastructure across your organization.
  • Packer standardizes image workflows across cloud providers, allowing teams to build, govern and manage any image for any cloud.
  • Waypoint makes infrastructure easily accessible at scale, enabling platform teams to deliver golden patterns and workflows with an internal developer platform.
  • Nomad brings modern application scheduling to any type of software, allowing you to manage containers, binaries, and VMs efficiently in the cloud, on-premises, and across edge environments.
  • Vagrant isolates dependencies and their configuration within a single disposable and consistent development environment.

Security Lifecycle Management: Protect / Inspect / Connect

  • Vault provides organizations with identity-based security to automatically authenticate and authorize access to secrets and other sensitive data.
  • Boundary standardizes secure remote access across dynamic environments, allowing organizations to connect users and manage access with identity-based security controls.
  • Consul standardizes service networking, allowing you to discover and securely connect any service across any runtime with identity-based service networking.

We deliver the Infrastructure Cloud through an enterprise-grade unified SaaS platform, HashiCorp Cloud Platform (HCP).

What’s special about HashiCorp Design?

At HashiCorp, we work on products that our users and customers love. It dramatically eases the work and overhead of deploying and managing infrastructure for teams, allowing people to focus on the uniquely valuable parts of their job rather than tedious and repetitive tasks.

This means customers really use our software and provide lots of feedback. Gathering and understanding this feedback requires that we collaborate across multiple disciplines, including Product, Engineering, Field, Marketing

We design and build workflows to enable our customers to secure their applications and protect sensitive information data. We focus on enabling platform teams and their customers (typically developers) to adopt and improve strong security practices. We do this with the user at heart and our ‘beauty works better’ principle in hand. We believe the design process can and should feel satisfying for stakeholders, continually improve with insights, and regularly deliver positive outcomes for our business.

We find that our principles of Kindness, Humility, and Reflection allow team members to collaborate openly and safely. We look to help and learn from each other and win together.

HashiCorp Design is looking for people who want to do the best work of their careers to join us and make all of us better.

About the role

We're building a team, and will be hiring for multiple positions at different levels.

As a Sr. Researcher, joining our newly forming Research team within Product Design, you will focus on developing and helping our teams develop an understanding of our users’ needs and behaviors to drive evidence-based decision-making.

You will drive alignment and collaboration around the questions the organization is asking, the decisions that teams need to make and help identify what evidence and insights we need to gather or synthesize to help inform those decisions. The outcome of your work will be strong collaborations and trusted partnerships through which we can collectively build a clearer understanding of target users, their contexts, goals, tasks and needs as well as the surrounding ecosystems.

We're building a team!

What you’ll do (responsibilities):

  • Be a passionate researcher who thrives in uncertainty and ambiguity
  • Work closely with product teams to identify meaningful research questions and choose methodologies that will most effectively answer them
  • Generate insights and deliver compelling presentations of your findings that shape how product teams think about medium and long-term product strategy
  • Conduct research using a wide variety of methods, and interpret analysis through the lens of UX, HCI, and social science
  • Partner with designers, other UX researchers, product managers, engineers, and other technical roles to conduct and share research in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment

What you’ll need (basic qualifications):

  • You are a mid-level to senior UX researcher with at least 3 + years of professional experience conducting research in enterprise software
  • Knowledge of quantitative research methods (e.g., sampling design, benchmarking, AB testing, metrics and analytics) and qualitative research methods (e.g., interviewing, surveys, ethnography, co-design, concept-testing, heuristic evaluations, etc.)
  • Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Experience conducting all aspects of user research operations, including screening and recruiting participants; scheduling; data collection; and analysis and organization of that data.
  • You enjoy working collaboratively with a distributed remote team.
  • You value feedback, and seeking ways to learn and grow as a researcher.
  • You are comfortable working on large scale projects
  • You’ve reviewed our principles and they resonate with your professional values.
  • You have familiarity or are willing to learn the key workflows involved in HashiCorp products (Terraform, Packer, Vagrant, Waypoint, Nomad, Vault, Boundary, Consul)
