About the role

 

The Forterra Commissioning Team is looking for a motivated and technically skilled Commissioning Technician to join our field team. In this role, you will be responsible for the onsite setup, integration, calibration, and validation of our sensor-based autonomy, working directly with internal teams and clients to ensure smooth deployment and system performance. This is an exciting opportunity for those interested in emerging technologies, particularly in the autonomous vehicle industry.

 

What you'll do

  • Perform onsite installation and configuration of sensor systems and control hardware.
  • Integrate systems with infrastructure, including networking and proprietary software.
  • Conduct precise sensor calibration using specialized tools and procedures.
  • Validate sensor output and system performance against project specifications.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting, including network connectivity and basic software diagnostics.
  • Document all setup, configuration, and validation steps in internal systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to refine integration protocols.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and quality assurance standards during all fieldwork.

Qualifications

  • 0–3 years in technical support, commissioning, field service, or system integration.
  • Understanding of network basics (IP configuration, ports, firewalls, etc.).
  • Comfortable using remote support tools and diagnostic utilities.
  • Basic proficiency in Linux environments, including use of common terminal commands (e.g., mv, cp, cd) and the ability to run Bash and Python scripts for data retrieval and automation tasks.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware setup, troubleshooting, or sensor technologies.
  • Able to travel and work in dynamic, hands-on environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with autonomous vehicles, LiDAR, Radar, GPS, or sensor fusion technologies.
  • Exposure to vehicle or fleet telematics, or real-time data acquisition.
  • Understanding of robotics platforms, industrial automation, or mobility R&D.

Education & Experience

  • Associate’s degree or vocational training in IT, Electronics, or similar field.
  • Relevant certifications (CompTIA, Network+, or vendor-specific) a plus.

 

US Hourly Range
$33 — $43 /hr

 

Location

On-Site in Clarksburg, MD 5 Days / week

 


 

The salary range for this role is an estimate and is based on a wide variety of compensation factors. The salary offered to candidates will vary based on a variety of factors including (but not limited to) relevant work experience, education, specialized training, critical expertise, training, and more. Equity in Forterra is included in most of our full-time, high-demand roles and is therefore considered part of Forterra’s overall compensation package. In addition to base salary and equity, Forterra offers competitive benefits for full-time employees including:
