Job Description

We are Zego - a commercial motor insurance provider that powers opportunities for businesses, from entire fleets of vehicles to self-employed drivers and riders. We combine best-in-class technology with sophisticated data sources to offer insurance products that save businesses time and money.

Since our inception, we have believed that the problem with traditional insurance is that it holds businesses back. It’s too expensive and time-consuming, and it no longer suits businesses that use vehicles to earn money. Our products represent a solution to this problem for businesses based across the UK, Europe and beyond.

So far, we have raised over $200 million in funding and we were the first UK insurtech to be valued at over $1 billion. We were also the first to be awarded our own insurance license and recently won Tech Company of the Year 2020.

The Function

Following our recent series C funding round, Zego is further expanding our footprint across the mainland EU, with plans to launch 3-5 new markets across 2021 in addition to our current European markets. Driven by our International Team, we will launch our best-in-class B2B insurance product, providing flexible and game-changing cover for our fleet customers across Europe.

As General Manager for Germany, you will have the opportunity to shape and lead the strategy for the launch and rapid scaling of Zego’s market presence. You will play a vital role in Zego’s international expansion, including building a world-class local team and culture, leading core commercial operations and heading up all in-country activities including navigating regulatory relationships, motivating the operational team, and creative problem-solving.

Working directly with the VP International, the role is centred on growing your market and also establishing the blueprint for further internationalisation. You will need to be a highly versatile and well rounded commercial leader that can translate plans into action, unafraid to get deep into problem-solving, whilst also having a birdseye view of the future of our German market. It’s the intersection of leadership, discovery, growth, creativeness, and problem solving that makes the International GM an exciting and challenging job.

About the role

    You will own the P&L for your market, develop the go-to-market strategy and execution plan, and work with other senior leaders and their teams to deliver joint business outcomes.
    You’ll hire, develop and motivate a high performing team to deliver and live by our culture, values, and growth ambitions in-market (to begin Sales, Marketing and Operations).
    Work with the other founding leadership team members for International to define, shape and drive business processes that can be replicated across new markets.
    Responsible for Zego’s public policy, representing us to the local regulator and ensuring Zego is at the forefront of shaping Government thinking on legislating for the next generation of vehicles
    Collaborate with functional teams to make sure we have the right local services and support to run the business.
    As a brand ambassador, network with appropriate organisations and professional groups to raise awareness of Zego and its ambition.
    Ensure we comply with local legislation and regulatory requirements to run a safe and healthy business.

About You

You are a highly adaptable and experienced country manager who is comfortable leading a team and a product from ground zero through to full scale.

You will need to be highly driven, have a passion for learning about and engaging with new cultures, and a desire to build a business from the ground up.

    You are an experienced leader, who understands the market, and has a track record of defining and introducing the right strategy and ensure your business establishes itself successfully in-country.
    You will be a change leader, comfortable working with and coaching senior leaders and managers across multiple disciplines, educating them on the local requirements to make sure we run a healthy and successful business
    Your are a natural, engaging, and inquisitive leader who inspires and motivates others, willing to get stuck in and hands-on to lead the way.
    You have the ability to make quick, sound decisions based on the data available, your knowledge and judgment. Able to focus on what’s important.
    You enjoy working in high energy environments, and have the capacity to deliver against a large workload and high-pressure situations.
    Excellent relationship-building, influencing and coaching skills.
    Experience in a high-growth scaling journey, and enjoy delivering as part of an international team!
    Fluent in German and English (our business language)
