Job Summary

    We have an exciting new opportunity for a Research Associate or Research Scientist to join our dynamic Discovery Biology team. The successful applicant will have previous experience in molecular biology techniques and ideally phage display or other display technologies. You will enjoy a varied lab-based role, identifying and optimising novel peptides using Bicycle’s proprietary phage display technology to deliver leads for drug discovery programs including internal oncology programmes and external collaborations. You will also be responsible for production and quality control of key complex reagents such as phage libraries to support the broader Discovery biology team.
Key Responsibilities

        Phage display campaigns using the proprietary Bicycle platform
            Carry out phage display and affinity maturation selections, including design and generation of bespoke phage libraries
            Preparation of samples for NGS and Sanger sequencing
            Use of bioinformatics software to process sequencing data, perform sequence alignments
            Analysis of peptide sequences and identification of key structure activity relationships (SAR)
        Running routine assays to determine the pharmacology of phage and bicyclic peptides
            Qualitative and quantitative affinity assays, e.g. ELISA, Alphascreen, BLI/Octet, functional assays
            Interpretation of sequence and assay data to make key decisions and drive projects forward
        Presentation of data internally and to external collaborators
        Reagent generation and technology development
            Maintain key phage-related reagents
            Large scale preparation of Bicycle’s unique phage libraries
            Run assays to quality control samples e.g by agarose DNA gel analysis, qPCR, UV absorbance, biochemical assays
        Accurate and timely record keeping via electronic lab note book system (Dotmatics)

Key Skills and Competencies

        A BSc in a biological or chemical subject or equivalent qualification/experience
        Experience of working in a pharmaceutical/biotechnology laboratory setting
        Phage display and molecular biology laboratory experience
        Ability to plan, conduct and analyse experimental work independently
        Strong interpersonal skills; effective communication with multidisciplinary teams both locally and remotely is essential
        Proactive approach to problem solving and strong self-motivation
        Excellent organisational skills and close attention to detail
        Diligence in documenting work and understanding of the importance of data integrity
        Good computing skills; proficiency with MS Office Suite
