Job Description

The Opportunity

New position at Avetta!  This exciting legal role puts you at the center of key initiatives that drive the business, and calls for a smart, dynamic individual who is collaborative, creative, and functions well in a fast-moving, constantly evolving environment.  Avetta is a fast growing global software organization.  Location is flexible, but ability to be in one of our U.S. offices frequently is important – TX Orem, UT or Houston, TX.

You will be providing a broad spectrum of advice to business teams, contracting, corporate governance, risk management, global regulatory compliance, employment matters, IP, privacy, security, M&A, and working with outside counsel.. Your role will include:

  • Provide proactive, forward-thinking, and creative practical legal advice and support across the business, including to the executive team, sales, marketing, product development, engineering, human resources, tax and finance teams
  • Advise on, draft, negotiate, and review general commercial contracts, terms and conditions, technology agreements, licensing agreements and service agreements
  • Handle regulatory matters and compliance with regard to a global SaaS business, including privacy, GDPR, CCPA, data rights, IP, transfer pricing, etc.
  • Collaborate with external legal teams to provide consistent advice that keeps the big picture in mind
  • Develop short and long-term legal priorities and implement operational efficiencies to improve our ways of working
  • Assess and develop internal governance policies and regularly monitor compliance
  • Lead special projects/initiatives and other duties as may be assigned
  • Research and evaluate different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations
  • Deal with complex matters with multiple stakeholders and forces
  • Maintain current knowledge of alterations in legislation
  • Conduct your work with integrity and responsibility

Ideal experience will include

  • Ability to provide advice and support in a wide range of areas including, but not limited to commercial, consumer protection, intellectual property, data sharing, M&A, and regulatory matters
  • Proven experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating expense and revenue contracts with third party service providers
  • Outstanding legal and analytical skills, including rapid issue spotting and working with the business to prioritize, analyze, and mitigate risk effectively
  • Selection and implementation of a contract management system

Main Requirements

  • Bar membership in Utah and/or Texas, or able to be admitted, and in other jurisdiction(s) needed to serve in the role.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience, with general knowledge of business practices at large national or international company preferred
  • Experience inside a PE owned high growth company
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of corporate law and procedures
  • Flexible and agile problem solver, with the ability to tolerate ambiguity
  • Demonstrated ability to balance legal and business risk with commercial opportunity
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working with all levels of an organization
  • Self-motivated, self-directed, and capable of working with minimal direction
  • Ability to navigate large teams, collaborate effectively, and drive decision making
  • Good sense of humor and a genuine interest in relationship building across teams
