Position Summary 

 

We are seeking a passionate and experienced individual to lead our People department. The individual will be responsible for developing and executing our Umojian resource strategy in support of the overall business plan and strategic direction of the organization. This strategy will include but not be limited to recruiting, talent management and development, culture building, training, organizational and performance management, compliance, and compensation and benefits. The People department lead will oversee a growing team as they build and implement the strategy to help Umoja attract and develop world-class talent as we seek to achieve our goals of transforming the future of cancer. 

 

REQUIREMENTS  

  

Specific responsibilities include:  

 

  • Develop and implement a human resources plan that aligns with the overall mission and strategy of Umoja 
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the management team including identifying opportunities/ issues and proposing/executing on solutions. 
  • Develop a comprehensive, proactive plan for attracting top talent, and oversee recruitment, selection, and retention of staff at all levels to meet the ambitious growth goals of the organization. 
  • Develop and support strategies to enhance communication and sense of team between multiple locations 
  • Develop and mentor HR staff of all levels and build a world-class team. 
  • Contribute to a positive working environment by providing frequent and meaningful employee communications.  
  • Research, develop, recommend, and execute creative strategies to implement DEI goals by reviewing and updating current practices and policies, assessing and analyzing the extent to which they support or hinder the goals. 
  • Understand manager and employee needs and identify opportunities to work together to enhance employee relations at all levels. 
  • Enhance the value of HR function by working closely with managers to oversee/resolve all employee relations and retention issues. 
  • Provide company-wide leadership around organizational development, change management, and cultural development efforts. 
  • Design and implement performance management and development programs across the organization. 
  • Design and implement a new HRIS platform. 
  • Provide strategic leadership and management for all compensation and stock programs for employees. 
  • Provide strategic leadership and management of all health and welfare benefit programs. 
  • Ensure that the organization is in compliance with all federal, state, local, and industry regulations, mandates, or requirements as they relate to HR, and effectively communicates changes and impact in policy, practice and resources 
  • Conduct in-house training and recruit outside trainers to meet staff and organizational professional development needs.  

 

The successful candidate will have:  

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, Organizational Development, or related field and 15+ years of experience. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of increasingly responsible human resources leadership experience, preferably with experience in the highest-ranking HR position.   
  • Broad experience as a human resources generalist, including employee relations, talent management, recruitment and retention, compensation, leadership development, Diversity/Equity/Inclusion, and health and welfare benefits.   
  • Experience preferred in supporting rapidly growing start-up and/or companies with multiple locations and remote employees. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Advanced computer skills utilizing MS office suite, teams, and Dropbox or SharePoint. 
  • Proven leadership skills and the ability to hire and lead a team. 
  • Experience crafting multi-departmental visions and mobilizing diverse workforces towards joint improvement goals. 
  • Ability to work well in a highly cross-functional team environment, meet deadlines, and prioritize effectively. 
  • Senior-level HR certification is strongly preferred.
