Job Description

Simoa® is changing the way in which the biology of health and disease is studied by giving researchers the ability to closely examine critical biomarkers in most therapeutic areas including neurology, infectious disease, oncology, inflammation, and cardiology. To continue our extraordinary growth, we are hiring a Payroll Manager located in Billerica, MA.  

We are looking for an experienced and motivated candidate to join our Finance team.

What You’ll Do:

  • Manage payroll process for US & international employees, including biweekly & monthly pay cycles as well as off cycle payments as needed
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local payroll tax guidelines
  • Manage day to day development, oversight & administration of company’s stock program, including partnering with counsel and external partners to ensure appropriate plan development and administration for US and international employees 
  • Work closely with HR to provide guidance on payroll processes and develop/implement company policies related to payroll & equity administration
  • Serve as point of contact to US and international employees to provide guidance on complex payroll and equity issues
  • Manage periodic bonus and commission payments including supporting the quarterly commission calculation per agreements and annual bonus calculation, as well as processing off cycle payment runs
  • Ensure income and taxes associated with employee equity activity (i.e., exercises, vesting) are properly recorded on W-2s and taxes are remitted timely to tax authorities
  • Supervise Payroll Administrator and provide training as needed
  • Serve as liaison with external and internal functional experts regarding tax considerations and issues with respect to equity awards
  • Lead key annual payroll related audits, including 401k and workers compensation audits
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation and drive the implementation of solutions
  • Review preparation of monthly and quarterly journal entries and related reconciliations

What We’ll Expect From You: 

  • 7+ years of prior payroll experience
  • Experience in equity administration a plus
  • Strong knowledge of global payroll processes including payroll compliance a plus
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail
  • Diligence about meeting deadlines
  • Demonstrative verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
