Excellent relational, communication, and presentation skills are highly regarded to help continue to foster a collaborative and learning environment.

Curie Co is recruiting an experienced bioprocessing engineer to develop downstream workflows and unit operations to purify recombinant proteins from a variety of expression systems. This individual will work closely with fellow scientists and RAs to prototype and optimize processes to improve yields and time to results. This role also provides an opportunity to work with others within biotechnology in establishing and managing CMO and external partner relationships.

Main Responsibilities:

    • Develop commercially scalable processes for the purification of recombinant proteins and enzymes expressed in microbial hosts (e.g., bacteria or yeast)
    • Develop unit operations at pilot scale to 100 liters
    • Prepare technology transfer documents including detailed process descriptions, mass balances, and process flow diagrams (PFD’s)
    • Manage CMO and external partner relationships including tech transfer
    • Participate and advise in the development of final product specifications
    • Implement and execute the purification of recombinant proteins
    • Collaboratively design and execute experiments (DOE), analyze data, write and review technical reports and protocols, and present during team meetings
    • Research, learn, and incorporate promising techniques and technologies in protein purification

    • Experience with lab-scale and pilot-scale unit operations
    • Sound understanding of protein biochemistry and recombinant protein expression in microbial hosts as it relates to downstream purification
    • Strong technical background and direct hands-on experience with large scale protein purification and downstream processing unit operations such as preparative chromatography, centrifugation, homogenization, diafiltration, and tangential flow filtration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency is a plus: ammonium sulfate precipitation, or purification from bacterial inclusion bodies
  • Proficiency is a plus: protein purification using affinity, size exclusion, ion exchange, and hydrophobic interaction chromatography
  • Experience with final formulation, granulation, spray drying is a plus
