Job Description

We are looking for a results-driven, and detail-oriented Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join Somatus, the leading provider of value-based kidney care.

The right candidate will play an important role as a key addition to the Executive Leadership Team at Somatus.  They will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer, the Executive Committee, and the Board to create and execute the business’ operational growth strategy.  They will lead the Somatus business lines from an operational perspective, with ultimate ownership of the P&L of $250M.

This dedicated leader will develop and maintain oversight of all business operations and will be an experienced and efficient leader with excellent people skills, business acumen, and an exemplary work ethic. The ideal individual will be a steward of company culture and operationally be responsible for installing the infrastructure, processes and best practices to position Somatus for scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • The COO will have direct oversight of Central and Field Operations, Account Management, Implementations and PMO.
  • Partner with the CEO to develop and execute business strategies, plans, and procedures
  • Lead the execution of the company business plan, by leading cross-functional teams to ensure strong service delivery and scalability
  • Develops, reviews, and monitors financial and performance outcomes to assure attainment of organizational objectives. Maintains an effective budgeting and capital planning discipline in conjunction with operational management to ensure planned revenues, expenses, and/or profit goals are met.
  • Provides infrastructure and sound process for strategic planning for each Division
  • Partners with SVP of Operations and DVP of Operations to ensure local market priorities are met while balancing those priorities against the goals of the broader organization
  • Execute on capitated full risk agreements across a multi-site operations book of business
  • Fosters a culture of accountability within Central and Market Operations
  • Identifies and helps to develop strategic relationships with potential and existing partners.
  • Establish and define key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor and assess company performance, partner satisfaction and quality ratings, and then hold the team accountable for these measures
  • Identify areas of opportunities for capital improvements across the organization, including opportunities to improve revenue, increase margin, reduce cost, and increase profitability throughout the organization all while improving efficiency
  • Recruit, coach, mentor and empower a bright, talented and high-performing team, keeping employees, teams and management engaged, motivated and focused on short-term goals & longer-term growth Lead, manage and hold direct reports accountable for achieving agreed-upon commitments
  • Cultivate and manage healthy relationships with internal teams, strategic partners, and vendors
  • Ensure existing, as well as new programs and initiatives, are in line with Somatus’ core values
  • Distill and implement operational best practices
  • Leverage technology to enhance operations effectiveness in providing excellent services to our patients
  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the company's risk profile
  • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and government agencies
  • Report compliance and risk issues to the Executive Committee including Legal Counsel

Qualifications/ Education:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Management or related area of study.
  • Experience managing a $250M P&L
  • Multi-site operational management
  • Proven results as a Chief Operating Officer or a Sr. Operations Executive
  • At least 2 years of progressively responsible experience for a major company (Healthcare preferred), Health Plan, or Health System.
  • Experience building high performing teams, including the ability to recognize and cultivate rising talent required
  • Adept at transitioning seamlessly from a strategic level vision to day-to-day tactical operations required
  • Working knowledge of data analysis and performance/operation metrics required
  • A demonstrated execution mindset and a record of success holding people accountable required
  • Understanding of and ability to create healthy organizational culture required
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills required
  • Advanced organizational leadership skills required

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Management or related area of study.
  • Varied experiences and responsibilities in Operations, Finance, and Human Resources strongly preferred
  • Experience leading high-performance teams within the healthcare strongly preferred

Work Setting: 

Will work in an office environment. Travel to company subsidiaries will be necessary, as well as for investor meetings/conferences.
