Job Description

We’re Multiverse—a tech start-up on a mission to create an outstanding alternative to university and corporate training. By delivering training in partnership with world-class content providers, through a combination of 1:1 coaching and cutting-edge tech, we offer apprenticeships that genuinely rival the learning experience at elite universities.

We raised a $44m Series B round this year, led by General Catalyst, the backers of Airbnb, Snapchat and Deliveroo, GV (Google Ventures), and joined by some of the best venture capital firms.


We are building the infrastructure of apprenticeships worldwide. We are looking for a technical leader to lead our engineering team and own the creation and implementation of our technical strategy in building the platform to support our vision. You will be supporting the VP Product & Tech in our big growth ambitions, scaling the team and the platform in line with our company goals.

You will own our technical strategy and roadmaps, regularly assessing the technical state of teams, advocating for best practices broadly, promoting best in class engineering practices and providing leadership and mentoring to the team (currently 12). Your technical leadership will help the business build an outstanding alternative to university and corporate training. You’ll also get a real kick out of coaching and inspiring your team - and have a desire to make your team one everyone wants to work for in the industry.

Once here, you will be

  • Strategy You provide the technical perspective and direction for the whole company.
  • Performance Create multiple Agile cross-functional teams, incorporating both DevOps and Test Automation cultures that are embedded in every team, not as separate functions. You will be expected to start small and scale to match company growth.
  • Hiring you will have responsibility for scaling our engineering team and ensuring Multiverse is a go to destination for engineers. We are currently a team of 13 (Principals, Seniors SE’s, SE’s and apprentices) with a plan to double in the next 6 months.
  • Retention Recruiting the best means ensuring that we keep the best. You will help instil a world-class culture of personal growth and learning, helping your people on their career journey with regular 1:1s, goal setting and performance enhancement.
  • Engineering Culture Working with the leads to set out our technology strategy as we scale and be able to communicate this to the rest of the organisation. You will make sure that the leads and the engineers are owning the engineering roadmap.

What you bring

  • You have scaled technical teams before and are ready to go again.
  • A demonstrable track record of building, coaching and leading high performing teams.
  • You have experience delivering high quality, scalable and customer-focused software.
  • An understanding of DevOps and quality testing, incorporating both automated and exploratory testing.
  • Passion for people and an enthusiasm for learning and personal growth
  • Extensive experience in directing best practices in the software development life cycle.
  • You are big on collaboration, creating an inspiring environment where ideas are shared, and openness is valued both inside and outside of engineering.
  • You are a great communicator who can take people on a journey, whether it's the senior leadership or our teams outside of engineering.
