Job Description

Coursera was launched in 2012 by two Stanford Computer Science professors, Andrew Ng and Daphne Koller, with a mission to provide universal access to world-class learning. It is now one of the largest online learning platforms in the world, with 82 million registered learners as of March 31, 2021. Coursera partners with over 200 leading university and industry partners to offer a broad catalog of content and credentials, including Guided Projects, courses, Specializations, certificates, and bachelor’s and master’s degrees. More than 6,000 institutions have used Coursera to upskill and reskill their employees, citizens, and students, including in high-demand fields such as data science, technology, and business. Coursera became a B Corp in February 2021.
 
The Content Strategy team is the company’s forward-looking radar and content innovation hub -- driving relevant content to empower learners. We identify in-demand topics, arm and advise our university and industry partnerships teams with data and recommendations on what courses will be most attractive for our learners, launch cross-team initiatives to further the Health agenda, and co-incubate emergent health topic areas and product lines. 
 
We are seeking a data-minded, strategic professional to provide research and data-driven, creative consultation to the internal Content Strategy team. In this position, you will use on- and off-platform data to inform the company’s strategy on non-technical content related to our new and emerging growth domains (primarily social sciences and law, additionally language learning). You will identify gaps and areas of over-saturation and enable our other Content Strategy experts to consult with our Partnerships teams on ways to fill these gaps. In this way, you will educate the rest of Coursera about the evolving landscape of these emerging domains --  job demand, learner mindset, popular content, thought leaders, and more. The research will likely include competitive analyses, overviews of key skills needed to succeed in a content domain, and forward-looking research to identify forthcoming trends. You will also be responsible for identifying and reaching out to key informants in the field for background on topic areas, and recommendations about what new content Coursera should add.

Responsibilities:

    • Use on and off-platform data/research to identify topics, and key credentials and skills that are of high value to Coursera’s learners. Ex. environmental economics, digital education, energy & environment
    • Enable our team to consult our university and industry teams on the types of content (projects, courses, degrees, certificates, continuing education) partners should add, and the types of formats in which to add content.
    • Analyze the existing catalog, and determine gaps and areas of over-saturation.
    • Enable our team to collaborate with teams like Marketing, Data Science, and Enterprise to define and execute projects that will positively impact our learners interested in emerging domains content
    • As and when necessary, support the team’s degree specialist in consulting to university teams for degree-related strategy work.

Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree with a background in Social Sciences, Business, Education, Law, or related field
    • 5+ years experience in data-driven research, strategy implementation, participating in cross-functional collaborative projects

Preferred Qualifications:

      • Strong research skills and ability to handle a range of non-technical topics5+ years experience in data-driven research, strategy implementation, participating in cross-functional collaborative projects
      • Master’s in Social Sciences, Business, Education, or related field
      • Strong data analysis experience, especially in Excel
      • Creative ability to identify and envision trends of the future
      • Passion for education
