Calm was co-founded by Alex Tew (Million Dollar Homepage) and Michael Acton Smith (Mind Candy, Moshi Monsters, Firebox).

About the Role

Millions of people have dozed off to Calm’s Sleep Stories, tranquil tales that mix music, sound fx and incredible voice talent to help users drift into dreamland. Calm is looking for a talented creative producer and inspiring people leader to help us chart the future of this groundbreaking audio format. Leading a team of writers, editors, and producers, you will define the short- and long-term strategic direction for Sleep Stories, drive the full development and production process to ensure a steady stream of extraordinary narratives, and collaborate across the Content team (Kids, Music, Partnerships, Post, etc.) and wider organization (Product, Data, Marketing) to push creative boundaries and amplify these soothing stories off platform.

  • Manage a world-class creative team
    • Develop and inspire a talented team of creative producers, writers, and editors
    • Create the conditions for creativity to thrive: empowering team members, encouraging experimentation, and developing processes and best practices to help the team operate effectively and deliver exceptional creative work
  • Reinforce and contribute to Calm’s culture of inclusivity, ensuring diverse representation within our content ecosystem and across our creative teams
  • Develop & produce extraordinary Sleep Stories
    • Specifically, sleep-inducing narratives that delight our global audience, attract top voice talent, and generate word of mouth and PR buzz
    • Drive the continued evolution of the Sleep Story format, holding regular ideation/pitch sessions, reviewing and editing scripts, and experimenting with new narrators, genres and themes to reach new audiences
    • Support the team with production needs including casting research, directing recording sessions, and providing input on sound design and music
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to expand the reach & deepen the impact of Sleep Stories
    • Leverage relevant metrics and research to identify new development opportunities and define the short- and long-term strategic direction for the format (Product, Data, Content Strategy)
    • Create pitch documents for talent and help manage agreements (Partnerships, Legal)
    • Ensure smooth launches (Content Ops) and maximize the impact of tentpole releases (Marketing, UA)

  • 8+ years of media production and/or content development experience, ideally in audio
  • Experience building and leading high-performing creative teams, leveraging internal and external resources to drive creative development workflows and produce content that has been heard by millions of people
  • Inspirational creativity: ability to envision groundbreaking modes of engaging new & existing audiences; strong storytelling sensibilities (superlative talent as a writer and editor); and ability to flex across all stages of the production process
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and comfort working in a fast-paced, scale-up environment
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally to drive multiple high-priority projects on deadline
  • Sharp communication skills: verbal, writing, presentation
  • Passionate about the category of mental health & mindfulness

  • Apple equipment
  • Opportunity to work with a product focused on making the world happier and healthier
