Job Description

This Senior Scientist role is in the Tumor Profiling group within Translational Sciences, responsible for the profiling of clinical biopsy samples across Adaptimmune’s clinical programs. We are looking for a driven individual to contribute to understanding of the mechanisms of tumor response to our SPEAR T-cell therapy. 

The Tumor Profiling group specialises in histology and image analysis. The senior scientist role will primarily be performing histological processing of patient biopsy samples and carrying out immunohistochemistry (IHC), multiplex immunofluorescence (IF), in situ hybridization (ISH) and IHC/ISH protocols on automated slide-based tissue platforms. The job holder will also be responsible for the independent interpretation and communication of scientific results they generate.

The Senior Scientist may also be involved in interactions with external partners or collaborators and vendors.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• In partnership with the Group Leader, design and conduct both routine and investigational biopsy sample processing and laboratory analysis to enable translational sciences and/or clinical study objectives. 
• Analyse, summarise and record experimental results and maintain relevant databases and records. 
• Participate in group and project meetings and discussions. Contribute to data interpretation and communication, scientific content of manuscripts and internal/external presentations.
• Contribute to routine lab maintenance.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required
• Degree in Life Sciences, or related discipline.
• Substantial and relevant post-graduate experience within academic or industry setting, preferably including an MSc or PhD in a relevant scientific area. 
• Experience of histology, in situ hybridisation and imaging laboratory procedures.
• Ability to work independently on routine experiments.
• Ability to learn and develop in order to interpret data, solve complex problems or take a new perspective on existing solutions.

Desirable 
• Experience in cell therapy and / or oncology.
• Experience of working in translational setting in biotech, pharma or CRO sector.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

Required
• Highly skilled experimental scientist.
• Histological skills, such as:FFPE Tissue sectioning using microtome, Immunohistochemistry, In situ hybridisation (e.g.: RNAscope).
• Experience handling human tissue
• Computer literate and ability to familiarise with different IT systems.
• Excellent numeracy and English language skills (both written and verbal).
• Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
• Good time management and organisational skills with attention to detail.
• Strong team player. 

Desirable
• Use of Discovery Ultra Research Instrument (IHC and ISH Platform).
• Analytical assay development and validation.
• Understanding of Digital Pathology analysis (HALO).
• Experience working under HTA licence.
