About Ardelyx

Ardelyx is focused on enhancing the way people with kidney and cardiovascular diseases are treated by developing innovative first-in-class medicines.

Job Description

Ardelyx is a publicly traded biotech company focused on improving the lives of patients by developing and commercializing first-in-class targeted therapies that advance patient care. Using our discovery model, Ardelyx scientists have characterized new biological mechanisms and pathways that have enabled us to develop a pipeline of drug candidates to manage complications related to kidney and cardiovascular diseases. Our lead candidate, tenapanor, is a first-in-class small molecule therapy for the treatment of hyperphosphatemia in adult patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis. If approved, tenapanor could completely change the treatment paradigm in a disease state with significant unmet need.  We are advancing the build of our commercial organization to be prepared for launch of tenapanor in mid-2021.

Ardelyx™ is building an integrated biopharmaceutical company with a focus on innovative treatments for kidney disease. Our mission is to serve patients through the discovery, development and commercialization of therapeutics that target critical pathways involved in cardiorenal diseases with significant unmet medical needs.

We are seeking an exceptional scientific leader to join our team as Director/Associate Director of Research DMPK.  The qualified individual will have a demonstrated track record of managing scientists engaged in all aspects of ADME PK characterization of Research project compounds being advanced from lead discovery to clinical candidate nomination. This leader will mentor and lead scientists and associates and will also contribute to portfolio and project strategies.  As a member of the Ardelyx Research Senior Staff, this individual will play a key role in the discovery and optimization of first-in-class therapeutics in the cardiorenal space.

As a member of the drug discovery team, the ideal candidate would be able to work closely with colleagues from medicinal chemistry, molecular pharmacology, and in vivo pharmacology to characterize the PK/PD of lead compounds and development candidates for advancement into IND-enabling studies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design, execute, analyze, and communicate the results of in vitro and in vivo ADME and PK studies supporting the Ardelyx Research programs
  • Oversee all activities performed in the bioanalytical laboratory and at CROs
  • Supervise and mentor staff
  • Develop analytical methods to support in vitro and in vivo experiments
  • Analyze/interpret and present scientific data to project teams and corporate partners
  • Provide scientific input to enable key decision-making for the projects
  • Review scientific portfolio and provide input for new targets/indications under consideration

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • D. in biology, chemistry, pharmacology, or related discipline
  • 10+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience with deep knowledge of PK/ADME principles and developing bioanalytical methods for small molecules, peptides, and proteins
  • Technical expertise in bioanalytical and DMPK assay development, including the design and execution of in vitro drug metabolite profiling studies
  • Outstanding multitasking and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with initiating and managing studies at domestic/international CROs
  • Previous experience working on projects focused on drugs targeting the intestine or kidney is a plus
  • Hands-on proficiency with HPLC, IC, LC-MS/MS, and HRMS systems from leading manufacturers
