Ardelyx is a publicly traded biotech company focused on improving the lives of patients by developing and commercializing first-in-class targeted therapies that advance patient care. Using our discovery model, Ardelyx scientists have characterized new biological mechanisms and pathways that have enabled us to develop a pipeline of drug candidates to manage complications related to kidney and cardiovascular diseases. Our lead candidate, tenapanor, is a first-in-class small molecule therapy for the treatment of hyperphosphatemia in adult patients with chronic kidney disease on dialysis. If approved, tenapanor could completely change the treatment paradigm in a disease state with significant unmet need.  We are advancing the build of our commercial organization to be prepared for launch of tenapanor in mid-2021.

Senior Accounting Analyst

Purpose of the role:

In this role you will contribute to the general ledger accounting functions/processes, including accruals for outside service providers, payroll accounting, cash and other account reconciliations. This role also contributes to month and quarter-end internal reporting. It is an exciting time at Ardelyx as we prepare for the expected launch of our first drug. You will assist in establishing process firsts as we continue to grow and evolve as a company.

We are looking for a highly capable, responsible, detail oriented individual who will exercise independent problem solving skills. The Senior Accountant will be highly organized, experienced in account analysis and reconciliations and have prior experience accounting for complex accrual and estimate models. They will have a broad-based understanding of monthly close processes in support of an accurate, timely earnings release and SEC filings in a public company setting operating in a SOX compliant environment.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate journal entries and general ledger account reconciliations on a timely basis for a number of general ledger accounts. Specific account responsibilities may shift over time depending on needs, capabilities and your interests as we continue to grow and evolve over time.
  • Responsible for the timely and accurate review and posting of month end close Accounting transactions
  • Execute the monthly-close process and preparation of monthly financial reporting packages for management review
  • Balance sheet and P&L account analysis, review, reconciliation & resolution
  • Responsible for the timeliness and accuracy of certain tax filings
  • Consistently maintain appropriate internal controls and uphold company policies & procedures
  • Interact successfully with internal and external auditors and support interim and year-end audits by providing timely & accurate data and communication
  • Track the major contracts and evaluate with the project managers the status of the projects at month - end and supporting the monthly accrual process.
  • Assist in the Company’s external financial reporting process, including quarterly and annual reporting (Form 10-Q and Form 10-K), other SEC filings and other financial reporting as required
  • Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for SEC filings
  • Assist with updating controls including assessing any control gaps and changes in processes
  • Adhoc Accounting analysis schedules and reconciliations as requested


Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related discipline, CPA is a plus
  • Minimum 5 years of related accounting and finance experience in a public company, preferably with biotech industry experience
  • Experience preparing financial statements for a public company
  • Strong systems skills including systems implementation experience. Prior experience utilizing systems to improve efficiency and accuracy of financial results. Experience with NetSuite or a major ERP, Commercial Banking platforms, ACH/Positive Pay, Paylocity or a major Payroll system
  • Superior attention to detail and strong organizational skills; strong process improvement and problem-solving skills
  • Picks up topics, moves them forward and achieves results with a hands-on approach, intellectual astuteness and a way of working which is solution-oriented and pragmatic
  • Seeks out new ideas, sees innovation and reforms as a chance to actively shape change
  • Strong Excel expertise
  • Experience in SOX compliance requirements

  • Characterized by very strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment and clearly communicate deviating standpoints with respect
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and embrace progressive change
