Job Description

AEye develops advanced vision hardware, software and algorithms that act as the eyes and visual cortex of autonomous vehicles. Since its demonstration of its solid-state LiDAR scanner in 2013, AEye has pioneered breakthroughs in intelligent sensing. The company is based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and backed by world-renowned investors such as Kleiner Perkins, Intel, Airbus, Subaru, LG Electronics, Hella, and more.

AEye is seeking an Automation & Equipment Engineering Manager to support the custom electromechanical and optomechanical equipment that we use in the fabrication of LiDAR sensors. The position is a hands-on engineering position, with significant time spent both in specification, design and procurement of new equipment (both commercially available and fully custom machines), in the build and commissioning of that equipment, and in the sustaining and optimization of that equipment.

As the Automation & Equipment Engineering Manager, you will work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire lifecycle of the product and processes. You will work closely with the Product Engineering, NPI, Manufacturing and Quality teams to integrate equipment and process automation to increase production capacity and efficiency.

 

Tasks, Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Leads the design, build, procurement, support and maintenance of AEye’s manufacturing equipment.
  • Develops strategies for maintenance, support, service, spare parts, etc.
  • Performs sustaining engineering as needed to ensure manufacturing equipment remains functional and compliant with relevant standards.
  • Manages initiative to update and modernize documentation related to all manufacturing equipment.
  • Leads efforts to design and build custom equipment as business needs arise.
  • Assists in the effort to modernize the pilot-line and develop meaningful equipment KPIs.
  • Documents and coordinates the preventive maintenance for all assets in manufacturing.
  • Develops transfer plans for capital equipment between manufacturing facilities and ensures equipment moves are successful.

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities): 

  • 5+ Years of Proven Experience in equipment and automation.
  • BS/MS Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent experience in Mechatronic Engineering, Automation engineering, etc.)
  • 10+ years of experience as a hands-on mechanical/manufacturing working on automation and/or electromechanical systems.
