The Role
As a member of our Project Management team, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of complex initiatives that span across multiple lines of our business. Reporting to the Project Portfolio Director, you will be responsible for leading cross-functional teams through a variety of cross-departmental projects.
 
The role of the project manager at ApplyBoard is a support role to help the organization achieve its goals.  At times this can mean being the leader to get the team over the finish line and at other times it can mean being at the back helping to make sure no one is falling behind.  A successful candidate is someone who can gauge how the project is progressing and quickly adapt their technique to match the need.

What you'll be doing everyday:

    • Manage a portfolio of complex initiatives that span one or multiple lines of the business
    • Full project life cycle ownership: successful project delivery will include full implementation from initiation to deployment for one major or several minor initiatives simultaneously
    • Anticipate and effectively address any potential bottlenecks and roadblocks
    • Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion
    • Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team
    • Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path
    • Keep alignment between all projects and the overall strategic goals of the organization
    • Truly own the success of the projects, by enabling others to do their best work
    • Participate in establishing practices, templates, policies, tools and partnerships to expand and mature these capabilities for the organization
    • Develop and manage all aspects of project and program engagement from planning, external vendor relationships, communications, resources, budget, change, risks and issues.
    • Report on project success criteria results, metrics, test and deployment management activities

What you bring to the table:

    • 3+ years of project management experience, including tracking and planning projects
    • Demonstrated experience with the requirements gathering, risk analysis and resource planning
    • Strong experience presenting to executive sponsors and demonstrated communication skills; both written and oral with technical and non-technical staff.
    • Fast learner with a desire for continuous independent learning
    • Experience with change management across distributed teams
    • Ability to direct and manage cross-functional teams and multi-disciplinary projects
    • Able to navigate ambiguous situations, anticipate, identify and eliminate roadblocks, and know when to escalate to keep projects moving forward
    • Meticulous attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously
    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent related work experience

Ideally, you also have experience with some of:

    • PMP, CPMP or CAPM considered an asset
    • Experience with Agile project management methodologies
