Job Description

Help us design and build scalable and reliable services to support our growing business. We are looking for someone with a passion for developing mission-critical software that creates simple abstractions for complex infrastructure. If you are passionate about scalability and performance, work comfortably in a collaborative, agile environment, and are excited to learn, we’d like to talk to you.

Technical leadership at Ritual requires impact and ownership. A senior software engineer at Ritual is expected to be effective in the following areas:

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and improve software based on emerging container-based technologies.
  • Be a hands-on coder who applies the best practices for code health, scalability and robustness.
  • Mentor and train other team members on design techniques to increase productivity across product areas.

We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer that has…

  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of experience delivering high quality software.
  • Experience with one or more programming languages, including Java and Python.
  • Experience with cloud platforms, containerized application deployments, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with distributed systems and architecture, and systems integration, with knowledge of Unix/Linux.

Bonus points for…

  • Spring (or Spring Boot), Jenkins, Knative, and Bazel experience.
  • Experience delivering complex and large scale systems.
  • Experience with cloud-based Database or Storage services.

Who you’ll work with:

You’ll work with other engineers across different teams on migrating services to Kubernetes. You’ll also work on building internal tools to be used by other engineers.

The engineering team at Ritual is a small and tight-knit unit. We are driven to deliver high-quality software as quickly as possible to our end users. We are extremely data-driven in our decisions about the product and constantly iterate to provide best customer experience. We are problem solvers, while remaining business-minded and customer-focused.

We are a Java shop hosted on Google Cloud Platform. We are currently in the process of transitioning a monolithic codebase on AppEngine to microservices using Docker/Kubernetes. Our data layer is mainlyMySQL, with Redis caching.. Our customers interact with the application through native iOS and Android apps as well as a web (React) interface. We take a project-based agile approach to software development.

What we offer:

  • Contribute to a lifestyle-changing consumer product used worldwide
  • Ritual credits to spend anywhere
  • Healthcare coverage from day one, and a flexible vacation policy (Need time? Take time)
  • Equity in the business - ownership is a key value at Ritual and we want you to share in our long-term success
  • Be at the heart of the growth startup community
  • Work with truly elite peers in a super-fun office (remotely for now!)
