About the Job

Nexant is looking for a Senior/Principal level Distribution Planning and Analysis Engineer who will lead distribution-related consulting services offered to our utility, project developer and other clients. The Senior Distribution Planning and Analysis Engineer should also have prior experience in distribution system engineering and operations, as well as interconnecting distributed energy resources (DERs) such as distributed PV and energy storage on the distribution system.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform and/or review utilities’ distribution expansion plans using loadflow software and other customized tools.
  • Perform and/or review DG interconnection and hosting capacity studies
  • Perform and/or review feeder-level load forecasting using statistical and data analysis tools on AMI and SCADA data.
  • Perform and/or review potential/adoption studies of electric vehicles and DERs such as PV solar and energy storage
  • Take part in business development activities, lead proposals, secure and manage studies
  • Serve as the in-house expert on all matters related to distribution planning, operations and grid modernization
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Strong Experience in the following areas:
    • Distribution planning, engineering and capital budgeting.
    • Using simulation software such as CYME, Synergi etc. for steady state power flow, voltage, short circuit and other calculations.
    • DG interconnection and hosting capacity analysis.
    • Development and use of distribution reliability performance metrics (SAIDI, SAIFI, etc.)
  • Experience in the following areas:
    • Analyzing large volumes of SCADA and AMI data using statistical and data analysis tools
    • Feeder-level load forecasting using software such as LoadSEER or utility developed software
    • Performing potential/adoption studies of EVs and DERs such as PV and energy storage
  • Knowledge of distribution system protection, distribution system operations and grid modernization technology such as ADMS, DERMS.
  • Bachelor or Advanced Degree in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in electric utility distribution planning, engineering and operations. Candidates with significant experience will be considered for a Principal level position.
  • Software skills: Statistical packages such as Stata, JMP, SAS; Python, data analysis software, MS Office
  • Registration as Professional Electrical Engineer is a plus.
  • Must be able to travel locally, nationally or internationally up to approximately 10% of the time. *Must include if applicable. If not applicable, disregard.
