Lacework is defining the cloud native security market and we need a passionate thought leader to build our community enablement motion from the ground up. Using technical education content, community outreach, and live events you’ll be creating amazing learning experiences that enable all security professionals to secure clouds at scale and at the speed of DevOps. We need a leader who can jump in and get their hands dirty at the start, but also develop and implement a winning strategy and build a team over time. This is essentially a Developer Relations leadership role for the Cloud Security market - you’ll be on the leading edge of putting the Lacework brand at the center of the burgeoning cloud native security space. Of particular importance is helping security professionals and organizations adopt modern, agile, DevSecOps practices and tools that transform their day to day work life.

Lacework is looking for a Head of Technical Thought Leadership.  As one of the founding members of the rapidly growing education team you’ll also have the chance to have an outsized impact on the culture, direction, and approach we take as an organization. We’re free from legacy offerings, technologies, and outdated approaches. This is truly a ground up, greenfield opportunity to “do it right from the start” and have a real impact in a customer facing, market defining role at a category defining company!

The Role:

  • Now
    • Develop and implement a technical enablement strategy for Lacework’s non-customer target audience
    • Ensure senior leadership and key stakeholders are informed and aligned on evangelism & developer relations strategy and execution
    • Research the technical learning needs of the broader cybersecurity market, especially with regard to adopting DevSecOps practices
    • Develop high quality technical enablement materials to engage with cybersecurity professionals and address the identified needs, including videos, presentations, and cloud-based lab environments and exercises
    • Engage with the broader Cybersecurity market through events, meetups, podcasts, webinars, blog posts, and other means to drive traffic and awareness to Lacework enablement assets
  • Later
    • Lead and develop a team of technical Cloud Native Security Advocates that expand our reach and further increase awareness of Lacework and our enablement assets
    • Lead the development and launch of a cloud native security professional certification program to recognize, reward, (and monetize) your audience

  • We have a deep understanding of the cloud native security market and the learning needs of professionals looking to be successful in it
  • Lacework is highly involved with and fulfilling the enablement needs of cloud native security professionals
  • We’re regularly produce of high quality and innovative educational materials that create significant learning gains for students

Key Interfaces and Working Relationships:

  • Lacework Labs (security research)
  • Sales Engineers (market needs)
  • Customer Engagement (customer marketing and messaging alignment)
  • Marketing (Lacework voice and messaging)
  • Engineering & Product Management (product knowledge and roadmap)

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years in a hands-on technical role
  • 5+ years leading teams with a mentorship approach to professional development
  • 5+ years working in a fast-paced technical environment. Prior startup experience is preferred
  • Have held a senior role in a highly related discipline (Developer Relations)
  • Deep expertise in cloud (Docker containers, Kubernetes orchestration, public cloud container services) and/or cybersecurity technologies (compliance, vulnerability discovery, host threat detection, cloud security posture management, cloud workload protection)
  • Customer-obsessed, with a strong combination of empathy and sufficient technical background to understand developers building in the cloud and the challenges they face when securing those environments
  • A functional understanding of modern adult learning pedagogical approaches and best practices including learner-driven design, backward design, activity-driven instructional design, and flipped classroom facilitation
  • Comfortable collaborating in diverse and highly distributed teams
  • Laser focused on data driven decision making, and functional outcomes
