Position Summary
The Sr. Manager / Director, Total Rewards will be responsible for ensuring Karius’s compensation and benefits are market competitive and aligned with Karius’s values and culture. This position will act in a consultative and analytical manner to prepare customized solutions that increase the health and performance of Karius’s employees and overall business. In collaboration with managers, peers from other functions and the HR Team, this role will help ensure Total Rewards Programs and practices are competitive and aligned to the company’s Total Rewards philosophy. The position requires a good mix of hands-on, operational and design experience, as well as a solid working knowledge of compensation, benefits & employment laws and regulations.

Location:  Redwood City, CA or Remote 
Primary Responsibilities
•  Conceptualize and drive implementation and adherence to a total rewards philosophy and guiding principles aligned to business strategies, are market competitive and integrated with the organization's culture through initiatives that effectively attract and retain top talent across a diverse workforce.
•  Set the vision for, design and develop a health and wellness strategy that meets the organization’s competitive needs and optimizes for spend while fostering a holistic approach to health.
•  Oversee the management of our benefits vendor relationships, plan design, cost modeling, stakeholder management, benefits contracts, and bid negotiation.
•  Design, deliver and maintain compensation infrastructure (salary structure, merit matrices, bonus and promotion guidelines, etc.) which provides framework and guidance and allows for appropriate flexibility to meet changing market needs.
•  Deliver a comprehensive compensation review system to align with the needs of multiple disciplines and functions, ensuring approach aligns to the motivation and growth of top talent and meets the business needs.
•  Apply knowledge of both our business and external market practices to develop and recommend new, alternate and innovative total rewards solutions.
•  Work closely with HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, and key business leaders on compensation for new hires, promotions, transfers, and ongoing job leveling, allowing for multifaceted changes as the market demands.
•  Partner with our compensation consultants to stay up-to-date on annual survey reports and trends reporting. Design and execute our total compensation and rewards process aligned to business strategies and the organization's performance management philosophy.
•  Determine and carry out detailed competitive market analyses in all areas of total rewards to ensure program design and delivery meet changing market demands.
•  Develop a comprehensive training and communications strategy to support our philosophy and ensure employees and leaders understand and value the total rewards offered and their choices to optimize these rewards to meet their individual needs.
•  Partner collaboratively with our finance team on our equity program, stock administration, and forecasting efforts.
•  Ensures compliance with all governmental regulations related to compensation and benefits programs; partner with internal legal and external experts to ensure up-to-date requirements and risks.

Travel:         No travel required. 
Physical Requirements
Subject to extended periods of sitting and/or standing, vision to monitor and moderate noise levels. Work is generally performed in an office, lab or clinical environment. 
Position Requirements
•  BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience. 8+ years of work experience, including 5+ years in Total Rewards. Holds or is working towards CEBS or CCP designation, preferred.
•  Previous Life Sciences industry experience strongly preferred.
•  Demonstrated experience in the design, implementation and administration of various rewards strategies to include base salary administration, geo-pay, sales and incentive compensation, variable rewards and equity compensation.
•  Demonstrable track record of quickly understanding business drivers and cultural/organizational dynamics and leading effective organizational diagnosis to understand the root cause of issues. 
•  Experience with design and administration of benefits programs.
•  Excellent analytical, technical and problem solving skills.
