About Arris Composites

Arris Composites is the pioneer of next-gen composites for mass market applications, including aerospace, automotive, and consumer products.

Job Description

The Arris NPI Manufacturing Team consists of the world’s experts in Additive Molding™ engineering development and production. Our NPI Manufacturing Engineers leverage their knowledge of engineering fundamentals, experience in thermoplastics, composites, traditional tooling disciplines, capabilities in mechanical design and problem solving to develop process recipes unique to Additive Molding™. NPI Manufacturing Engineers have extraordinary flexibility in thought and are able to invent and learn new methods.

Most engineers who are hired at Arris have just a few of the experiences listed above, and none have prior experience in Additive Molding™. As a result, the existing team has to train new team members in Additive Molding™. Given this significant internal training required, Arris prioritizes hiring individuals who are self-starters and are highly capable of learning by observation and independent effort. Members of this team deliver processes for manual production and processes that are used in automated production. The team delivers processes in the shortest possible time frame, as time-to-market is a critical criteria for Arris’ business success.

About Arris

From a team that has been instrumental in the development of leading 3D printing and advanced manufacturing technologies comes the biggest development yet. At higher strength and lower density than titanium, carbon fiber composites hold the potential to change the world by unlocking novel design architectures that deliver unparalleled performance at lighter weights. Despite this potential, the complexity and cost of designing and manufacturing these anisotropic materials has limited their use to high-end, niche applications. Arris has solved this problem and top companies in the world have taken notice. New design latitude and improved performance provides competitive advantages for leaders across the industrial and consumer markets. Your view of composites is about to change.

As Our Director of NPI Engineering, You Will:

  • Become one of the world’s foremost experts on Additive Molding™
  • Be a strong technical mentor
  • Be a proven, capable, empathetic leader of outstanding engineering teams who finds deep satisfaction in developing engineering talent
  • Provide Design for Manufacturing feedback, including feedback on both the design and schedule, for customer programs
  • Develop guidelines for Design for Manufacturing in line with Additive Molding™ capabilities
  • Examine parts in the pipeline, characterize the technology needs and current Technology Readiness Level (TRL)
  • Develop innovative technical and operational roadmap for development. This can be done in coordination with tooling R&D, but needs to be driven from customer requirements
  • Manage the NPI Manufacturing team: manage the workload, professional development, team dynamics, and cross-team information exchange and documentation
  • Own the success and failures of the team
  • Plan and manage design and fabrication capacity by identifying equipment and facility needs
  • Map out workflow and resource needs, with input from the machining team; identify gaps and develop robust backup plans to meet varying demand
  • Be onsite to observe parts and be adept at hands on problem solving; offer thoughtful input, and make decisions as one of the world’s experts in Additive Molding™
  • Create and maintain documentation to aid in more efficient process development and team knowledge sharing
  • Ensure systems of organization to support production; periodically audit onsite to ensure this system is established and in good working order

Qualifications:

  • 10+ years experience in engineering leadership
  • 5+ years experience managing high performing teams
  • Solid grasp of the fundamentals of mechanics of materials including strength, hardness, heat treating, heat transfer, and CTE
  • 5+ years of experience in high volume production environments
  • Excellent professional references

Perks Include:
