Job Description

R3 is looking for an experienced technical lead working on the Trade product line. The ideal candidate would have 9+ years of industry experience, with finance, international trade or blockchain specialization a benefit.
 
The successful candidate would be working closely with product and sales to scope, design and plan large technical projects in the international trade space. With assistance from architectural leadership, you would be providing high level architectural guidance, while mentoring more junior colleagues as they specify and implement detailed technical designs.
 
You would be responsible for line managing engineers, regularly holding 1 to 1s, setting short and long term goals for them, reviewing code and providing advice on how to improve their skills and develop their careers.

The role has impact both across the wider engineering division, as well as the entire company, with regular status updates to C-level (in particular Chief Product Officer).

Responsibilities

  • Working with Product Managers and technical leadership to drive the customer roadmap forward.
  • Focusing on moderately complex and tactical challenges, while consistently anticipating upcoming business requirements through a customer lens.
  • Leading a development team through the ongoing delivery of product, with tasks including overseeing code, instilling best practices, and documenting and implementing architectural decisions.
  • Contributing significantly to technical improvements, designing complex features to meet business needs, articulating design decisions, and pushing for changes where these are needed to improve delivery effectiveness.
  • Driving outcomes with wide-ranging consequences, whilst working closely with cross-functional team members, e.g., Product, QA and Project Management.
  • Contributing to the technical vision of the product roadmap and provide detailed input on how to deliver that vision.
  • Capturing and prioritising customer problems and requirements as the Engineering SME for a set of features.
  • Holding line management responsibility for a team, and driving discussions on progression, areas of improvement and performance. 
  • Holds regular 1 to 1s with engineers, supporting team career progression and morale, as well as ensuring high performance.
  • Frequently leads meetings both within the team and to a wider audience.

Education and Experience

  • Strong understanding of computer science and engineering principles, obtained through a combination of advanced academic study and significant professional experience.
  • 9+ years’ experience in an enterprise level environment.
  • Experience delivering end-to-end platforms and services.
  • Familiarity of multiple layers of the infrastructure and application stack from systems / OS development through networking, middleware, and application logic.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Java, Kotlin or other JVM based languages.
  • Experience in international trade, trade finance, or finance generally.
  • Experience with smart contract development.
