Job Description

The Senior Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for the design, deployment, and operation of our organization’s backbone IT infrastructure. The scope includes our core network (routers, firewalls, and VPN), Servers (Windows and Linux), Activity Directory, Domain Controllers, and related appliances.

Responsibility will grow to include aspects of our security program including monitoring, incident mitigation, incident response/remediation, training, and SOP development.

The successful candidate will have a broad background, demonstrate the ability to learn and quickly apply new skills, and a passion for customer service doing whatever is required to support the organization.

Primary Responsibilities

 

  • Design and implement core networking services, server, and storage infrastructure to support evolving business needs and/or respond to security threats
  • Ensures the availability, maintenance, and security of our IT environment
  • Support a cloud-first strategy and ensure security/access to IaaS/PaaS/SaaS solutions via SSO and/or MFA
  • Responsible for strategic development, deployment, operation, and maintenance of our Microsoft based core infrastructure such as Window Servers, Active Directory, Azure AD, DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, NPS, Certificate and messaging services
  • Responsible for strategic development, deployment, operation, and maintenance of our hyperconverged and virtualization infrastructure
  • Responsible for strategic development, deployment, operation and maintenance of our backup and disaster recovery operations
  • Responsible for strategic development, deployment, operation, and maintenance of our patch management operations
  • Responsible for implementation of information security best practices related to infrastructure services
  • Develop tools and programs utilizing programming and scripting knowledge
  • Supplements daily helpdesk, desktop and lab support operations as needed

Skills and Knowledge

  • Proven experience and in-depth knowledge regarding the deployment, maintenance, and ongoing support of Core infrastructure services such as:
    • Software virtualization services (VMWare)
    • Hyper converged infrastructure (Nutanix)
    • Patch Management services (Ivanti)
    • Disaster Recovery and backup services
    • Networking protocol layers (ISO Physical Layer – Application Layer).
    • Various protocols such as TCP, IPv4/v6, UDP, DNS, ARP, IPsec, TLS, Routing, VPNs, VLANs, and SDNs
  • Strong troubleshooting, root cause analysis, resolution, and performance tuning skills
  • Knowledge/experience utilizing common scripting/programing languages such as PowerShell, Python or VBScript
  • Knowledge/experience building Microsoft Azure and/or Amazon AWS cloud solutions a big plus
  • Solid understanding of good programming practices, architecture, design patterns and unit testing
  • Knowledge/experience working in a regulated/validated multitenant (development, test, validation, and production) environment
  • The ability to learn quickly, prioritize effectively, execute in high-pressure situations, and influence technical/strategic decision making
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with strong attention to detail
  • Good documentation skills (Process & Technical)
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and conceptual skills
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent people skills are required

Position Requirements

  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) preferred
  • VMWare Certified Professional (VCP) preferred
  • 6+ years of experience managing a Microsoft Windows and virtualization environments
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Cyber Security, systems administration, or networking
