We are looking for a Director of Technical Accounting and External Reporting to establish our in-house technical accounting function and be primarily responsible for internal and external financial reporting, technical accounting research and controls.  The Director of Technical Accounting and External Reporting is a senior leadership position within the Accounting organization and reports to the VP of Accounting.  The Director will leverage internal and external resources to assess all complex accounting matters and conclude in collaboration with external auditors and internal stakeholders.  This position will also implement a process to facilitate potential public company reporting. 

We are looking for a leader that will be an advocate for automation, process improvement, collaboration and mentorship.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Own technical accounting policy and ensure compliance with existing U.S. GAAP
  • Assess and implement new technical accounting topics, including evaluation, documentation and communication of all new accounting standards and reporting trends
  • Lead adoption of ASC 842 and other accounting standards, as applicable
  • Lead annual review and documentation of segment reporting considerations / conclusions (ASC 280) and goodwill impairment procedures (ASC 350)
  • Own the monthly, quarterly and annual financial statement preparation process including the consolidation, footnote disclosures and compliance checklists
  • Assess disclosure requirements necessary for public company reporting and implement a repeatable and efficient process for updating disclosures that will be utilized by the broader accounting organization
  • Assist in implementing scalable solutions including systems and processes to facilitate an expedited reporting timeline
  • Manage the financial statement audit process including relationships with external auditors
  • Provide thought leadership to the broader accounting department regarding future compliance with SEC reporting and SOX requirements
  • Lead the design and implementation of internal controls specific to the financial reporting process
  • Coordinate with outsourced providers to facilitate annual internal control testing 
  • Assist in the evaluation / diligence of potential M&A transactions, as well as M&A integration
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to assess the accounting and financial reporting impact of new, strategic, business initiatives, including researching accounting standards for new and complex transactions

First 30 Days

  • Familiarize yourself with each of our solutions focusing on the following
    • Understand product offerings, value proposition, pricing, delivery and support
    • Assess how each generates and recognizes revenue
  • Understand the financial systems and data taxonomy of the entire business
  • Assess and understand the financial reporting and consolidation processes
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders across the accounting team

First 60 Days

  • Develop your vision for how to evolve the financial reporting process to support internal and external stakeholders
  • Work with the broader accounting organization to design a process to compile footnote disclosures


First 90 Days

  • Improve speed and accuracy of the internal financial reporting process to meet monthly and quarterly deadlines
  • Begin documenting and formalizing critical accounting policies

What We Seek:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting and CPA certification, MBA/MSA a plus
  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including public accounting and progressive technical accounting experience in-house
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a public company
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of current SEC rules and regulations
  • Strong technical accounting background and understanding of complex accounting transactions
  • Experience auditing or implementing new accounting standards
  • Ability to perform advanced technical accounting research and analysis, and documenting results and conclusions
  • FinTech, Software and SAAS experience is strongly preferred.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment,
  • Highly detailed, organized and able to handle multiple competing deadlines
  • Excellent time and project management skills - can coordinate multiple projects simultaneously in high-paced business culture.
  • Strong, professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Clearly understand the “why” and “how” and guide the team to solve problems
