Job Description

Health IQ is seeking out our first Medicare Supplement Actuary to lead our rapidly growing Medicare business.  Reporting to the Chief Actuary, this role will drive innovation in product design, data-driven underwriting, and streamlined processes to offer a best-in-class product offering.  If you are a high performer with a blend of technical skills and a creative mindset looking for a fast-paced, high-growth opportunity, then this is for you!

What you will be doing:

  • Lead new product development initiatives and see-through from product design to launch.  
  • Own relationships with carrier partners, working with actuaries, underwriters, product filing, and new business teams to roll out new initiatives and drive improvement on inforce products.
  • Think strategically on opportunities to grow Health IQ’s senior business with an eye for unique risk segmentation, product & process excellence and turn these ideas into implementable plans.
  • Analyze claims data to design more robust underwriting and pricing backed by data and medical research.
  • Perform competitive analysis to understand the product landscape.
  • Monitor inforce business to ensure achieving KPIs for Health IQ and partners;  Proactively identify ways to improve performance and implement plans to ensure targets are achieved.
  • Will be Involved in medicare advantage and other ancillary products for the senior market to drive company success and ensure we have the optimal set of products on the shelf. 
  • Work closely with Health IQ’s Chief Underwriter, Chief Medical Director, President & Chief Business Officer, and the actuarial team.  
  • Interact with and provide domain expertise to all areas the products touch including sales agents, marketing, engineering, operations, data science legal, and finance.  Have a pulse on agent feedback to optimize products and processes.

What we’re looking for:

  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries designation or equivalent
  • 7+ years of insurance experience with at least 3 years working in medicare supplement
  • Experience with product development and filing is ideal
  • Takes ownership of product initiatives and drive business outcomes
  • Has a track record of success and stands out from peers
  • Expert in analyzing data and acting upon findings; experience with R or Python a plus
  • Has a well rounded actuarial skillset and motivated to learn on the fly
  • Comfortable juggling multiple tasks/deadlines simultaneously
  • Self-motivator with good judgment and a strong focus on details who thinks strategically
  • Able to work successfully both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
