Role Summary

As part of the Health Catalyst mission to be the catalyst for massive, measurable, data-informed healthcare improvement, we are so excited to announce the addition of Vitalware team members, revenue cycle management products, and solutions to our family.

The Senior Build and Release Engineer for the Architecture team supports the Product Development department and is responsible for working with all development and support teams to provide build and release management.  Additionally, this role is responsible for working with development and QA teams to create and support existing Continuous Integration processes including version control, build, configuration, database integration, automated unit tests, and regression tests. 

This position requires communication with highly technical and non-technical internal teams. Platforms include, but are not limited to Angular, NodeJS, C#, .NET Core, TeamCity and/or Jenkins, Octopus, MS SQL, Typescript, JavaScript, HTML, PowerShell, Bash, Windows Server, Ubuntu, Azure, and Git/Gitlab.  This position requires cross-team communication, attention to detail, and the ability to manage and prioritize competing projects. The Senior Build and Release Engineer takes direction from the Lead, Architecture team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create and optimize existing build and deployment processes. Help the Architecture team document, govern, and implement build and deployment processes across development teams.
  • Create deployment processes that are stable, scalable, testable, and repeatable with minimum configuration while adhering to industry standards.
  • Help manage version control using Git/Gitlab, assist in branching and versioning strategies while maintaining Git best practices.
  • Work directly with the Architecture team on new functionality and estimates.
  • Support existing build and deployment processes.  Provide guidance and support as needed.
  • PowerShell and Bash Script creation and modification of existing scripts and modules.
  • Review build and deployment logs.  Perform troubleshooting and investigation, related to code build, deployments, variable value translation, and other CI/CD issues.  Identify issues with builds and/or deployments and provide fixes and/or guidance as required.
  • Provide additional production support and insight including service status and outage troubleshooting as required.
  • Create and maintain documentation around build and deployment processes.  Expose release and help product documentation for internal and external consumption.
  • Conduct technical presentations that educate teams on CI/CD/Zero Downtime Deployments.
  • Significantly contribute as a member of Agile Scrum teams.

Recommended Qualifications and Experience

  • BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science or related technical discipline preferred.
  • 5+ year’s relevant experience.
  • Expert in continuous integration, continuous delivery, and continuous deployment/zero downtime deployments.
  • Expert in Git/GitLab and branching strategies.
  • Expert in continuous integration systems (Octopus, Jenkins, Bamboo, etc.).
  • Expert with build tools (MS Build, NPM, ANT). 
  • Expert with package tools (Artifactory, Nuget, Chocolatey, apt-get).
  • Expert with Powershell and/or Bash scripting and modules.
  • Experience with configuration management and orchestration tools (Terraform, Ansible, Salt).
  • Experience with automated testing systems (Selenium).
  • Familiar with static code analysis, automated unit tests, code coverage analyzers, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with C# and NodeJS.  Typescript and angular experience a plus.
  • Demonstrable experience implementing enterprise-scale, high volume, high availability systems.
  • Sound knowledge of software engineering principles and Agile/Scrum process.
