Job Description


Silk Road Medical is hiring a Director/Senior Director, Business Development & Strategy, who will report directly to our COO & CFO.  This role will lead Business Development & Strategy efforts and partner with internal colleagues and external partners to directly influence the company's strategic direction and accelerate our growth. This is a highly cross-functional role that will partner with Marketing, R&D, Sales, Finance and other teams as the selected candidate leads critical strategic initiatives and growth opportunities.

Essential Job Functions:  

  • Design and conduct strategic, market, competitive and financial analyses of business development opportunities, including potential acquisitions, licenses, partnerships, alliances and strategic investments that support our strategic plan
  • Lead all aspects of the transaction process from business case development through closing
  • Coordinate and direct corporate resources as well as external advisor relationships (investment banks, law firms, accounting firms) 
  • Support international expansion efforts by working with our VP, International Business Development creating and implementing a market development strategy, including identifying and evaluating distributors/partners and assessing direct models and local manufacturing strategies
  • Support critical business activities by negotiating new marketing, education, or similar partnerships to help expand our addressable market
  • Manage existing alliances with important corporate partners
  • Partner with our Pipeline & Innovation team in our R&D organization to explore organic and inorganic opportunities
  • Lead ongoing strategic planning efforts, including the plan for scaling (people, facilities), budget and forecasting processes, IP strategy and out-licensing
  • Work directly with COO & CFO on board meeting preparation and investor relations 


  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; MBA is a plus
  • 10+ years relevant work experience in the medical device industry.  Work experience ideally in investment banking, corporate finance, venture capital / private equity, marketing, and/or business development; background in engineering, science or medicine a plus
  • Demonstrated quantitative and strategic thinking aptitude
  • Advanced corporate finance, modeling, due diligence and project management skills
  • Experience structuring, negotiating and closing business development-related transactions
  • Strong capabilities in understanding and structuring complex transaction documents
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, including strong formal presentation skills
  • Experience working effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Strong interpersonal skills commensurate with the need to effectively manage peers and work closely with external partners and numerous in-house cross-functional teams
  • Ability to maintain the highest degree of confidentiality and integrity, represent the company's high ethics, moral behavior, and professionalism
  • Genuine care for patients and their families
  • Must have a roll-up-your-sleeves mentality and a passion for getting things done, as well as the ability to learn quickly
  • High proficiency in problem solving ability and strong scientific analytical skills
  • Willingness/Ability to travel up to 40% as required (and when possible to travel safety)
