About Plaid

Plaid is focused on democratizing financial services through technology. We build beautiful consumer experiences, developer-friendly infrastructure, and intelligent tools that give everyone the ability to create amazing products that solve big problems.

We started out by building the technical infrastructure APIs that connect consumers, traditional financial institutions, and developers. Today, we add key insights to the data access we provide with our suite of analytics products and one in four Americans with a bank account now uses Plaid.

Job Description

We believe the way people interact with their finances will drastically improve in the next few years. We’re dedicated to empowering this transformation by building the tools and infrastructure developers need to create their own products. Today, thousands of companies such as Acorns, Stripe, and Venmo rely on Plaid to connect with the financial system; supporting millions of requests per day and thousands of bank integrations. Our goal is to give people more control over their finances and unlock financial freedom for everyone.

The security engineering team believes security should be the default when creating new products at Plaid. Our mission is to create the APIs and frameworks engineers use to abstract away things like data encryption, authentication, abuse detection and more. We believe security is inherently a software engineering challenge, and that it should be both an enabler and accelerator for engineers.

You will lead a team of software engineers solving issues across security and privacy. You will help the team define the “user experience” of security for engineers at Plaid. You will join a team focused on data privacy and abuse, and create a larger vision of how to build the most important security abstractions for Plaid’s long term success.

As a leader on the security team, you will also help hire, and grow the team to tackle some of the most challenging and important issues at Plaid around data minimization, encryption, authentication, and abuse detection.

We're guided by our principles including impact, growing together, embracing openness and positivity, inventing tomorrow; we’re looking for leaders who are motivated by those same principles.

What excites you

  • Solving security through code and abstractions. Making security fundamentals accessible to all of engineering.
  • Creating infrastructure to understand and map data flow across services.
  • Building systems to treat all data as sensitive while ensuring the right people and systems can access it at the right time.
  • Using metrics to ensure security is shifting left while accelerating product development.
  • Turning software engineers into security advocates and security engineers into software advocates.
  • Anomalies.
  • Helping build out Plaid’s security recruiting process, and growth guides for security engineers.

What excites us

  • 2+ years of engineering management experience, with 4+ years as a software engineer.
  • Experience managing teams of software engineers building security abstractions.
  • Experience building infrastructure to handle encryption, data deletion, key management, or authentication.
  • You’ve built a recruiting pipeline to hire and grow your team.
  • You’ve worked with or on product facing teams thinking about the trade offs between security and usability.
