Job Description

Our xVantage Group includes highly sought after experts including data scientists, bioinformaticians, cloud computing experts, and software engineers.  We seek a business savvy individual with a strong technical background to work with a multifaceted team of scientists, developers, data strategists, sales, and executives to create and manage successful bids for DNAnexus’ industry-leading cloud-based biomedical informatics platform and services. 

As an ideal candidate, you will be managing multiple pre-sales engagements through their life cycle. You will be working with the technical team to design custom solutions for enterprise customers and providing comprehensive, compelling proposals. You will work cross-functionally, from pre-sales through POC and Pilot delivery, to ensure both DNAnexus success (acquire new accounts) and customer success (resolve their pain point and ultimately delight with the engagement and deliverables).

To be successful in this role, you must have the ability to effectively interact with clients at all levels of management and be able to lead cross-functional teams.  Experience working on teams of various sizes in a fast-paced environment where initiative, flexibility, and the attitude to take on a variety of responsibilities are inherent to the role.

Bid Managers may work remotely and communicate through web meeting, chat, email, and other means. Occasional travel will be required post-covid.


  • Help sales land new accounts and capture opportunities to expand current accounts by managing the design of custom, enterprise solutions and implementation of POC and Pilot deliverables.
  • Be accountable for proposals, RFI/RFP responses, proof-of-concept project completion, and formal services contracts (i.e. statements-of-work) .
  • Set the stage for successful customer onboarding by creating services agreements and managing hand-over to the development team upon closing. 
  • Develop healthy working relationships with customers, ensure transparency, and manage expectations.
  • Drive project definition by collecting customer requirements and proposing solutions.
  • Build strong relationships with customers and prioritize their success and delight in the solutions defined. 
  • Work across Product, Engineering, Bioinformatics services to define whole solutions and articulate the value from a scientific and business perspective to stakeholders. 
  • Participate in project planning, including budget, schedule, and resources to ensure POCs and Pilots will occur promptly with predictable turnaround.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of best practices and operational excellence.

Skills & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, software engineering, or similar field. An advanced degree in bioinformatics or life science, and an MBA is highly desirable.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both oral and written; able to communicate clearly and effectively with members of the technical team and executives 
  • Experience in writing grants and proposals for complex solutions.
  • Experience collecting requirements and drafting statements-of-work that accurately articulate the scope of the engagement and deliverables.
  • Experience working with finance, solid understanding of building support around the delivery of professional services for financial statement audits.
  • Highly organized with ability to manage concurrent deadlines and multiple priorities.
  • History of progressive experience in consulting, services, or program/project management role, with sales or business development responsibilities. 
  • Field Applications Scientist, Solution Architect, or Product Management experience  in the scientific PaaS or SaaS space is a plus.
  • Self-starter, highly proactive with the ability to work with minimal guidance and direction.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, and sometimes conflicting, priorities.
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills
