Job Description

Based in NYC, the Director of Retail Operations will be at the ground level of building and developing Studs’ unique ear piercing and shopping experience. This role will report to the VP of Retail and oversee store operational excellence across our expanding fleet of stores. You will be responsible for owning the execution of store-level operations strategies and processes to support Stud’s growth and help us achieve our customer experience, financial and sales objectives. This role will collaborate closely with our marketing, merchandising, and logistics teams, and will manage our District Managers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own overall labor model resourcing plan for current stores and new store openings

  • Achieve operational excellence by developing SOPs, managing roll-out plan with District Managers, and tracking roadmap to completion

  • Own monthly retail reporting (sales v plan, ops metrics, NPS, and forecasts) and provide strategic analysis/action plans to achieve goals and objectives

  • Manage District Managers’ career development and district performance

  • Manage and develop the Retail Tech roadmap (booking, waiver, POS, and inventory management systems), reporting out on quarterly progress

  • Collaborate with Supply Chain on inventory flow according to sales, store needs, and events.

  • Own retail calendar--including merchandising drops; training and development sessions; store promotions; inventory shipments; and events--in partnership with District Managers

  • Own retail communications including cascading marketing calendar launches and product education

  • Oversee existing store P&Ls and District Managers/Store Manager expense tracking, while identifying areas of opportunity for cost savings

  • Oversee HQ store onboarding, rotations, and feedback

  • Own vendor management and help consolidate overall vendor relationships including security, maintenance, appointment-booking, etc.


  • 8-10 years of retail management experience; experience with jewelry, piercing or a service or hospitality business is a plus.

  • Knowledge of Acuity, Shopify POS, and Brightpearl systems preferred, but not required.

  • You’re an exceptional leader: you’re a problem-solver and you have a proven ability to lead, inspire, and direct a team. You’re able to motivate a team to reach established KPIs and expectations.

  • You’re an excellent communicator who can build relationships with people of all backgrounds.

  • You act like an owner: if something isn’t working, you fix it and you constantly find ways to improve the business taking feedback from the team and customers and translating it into action items.

  • You’re comfortable with the ambiguity that comes hand-in-hand with startups. You’re able to meet tight deadlines and ensure compliance from the field. 

  • You act with integrity, speak up, and assume best intentions.
