Job Description

About the Company

Gemini Therapeutics is a biotechnology company pioneering precision therapeutics for patients with high-risk genetic profiles linked to dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and rare systemic diseases. Gemini’s therapeutic candidates are matched to molecular abnormalities found in patients with high clinical need, and our broad multimodal pipeline includes monoclonal antibodies, recombinant proteins and gene therapies.  Launched with funding from leading life science investors and powered by academic partnerships around the world, Gemini is developing a series of first-in-class therapeutics.  The company currently has 30 employees, and more information is available at www.geminitherapeutics.com.

About the Role:

Scientist/Senior Scientist, Gene Therapy (Retinal Biology)

Gemini Therapeutics seeks a highly motivated, energetic, and independent retinal biologist to join our growing Gene Therapy team as we expand our research efforts and advance our lead assets towards the clinic.  This Scientist/Senior Scientist role will focus on planning and executing both in vitro and in vivo studies to evaluate efficacy of our therapeutic AAV vectors.  The successful candidate will collaborate effectively with Gemini scientists as well as with our academic partners and CROs to advance our pipeline.  This position has tremendous room for growth and opportunities to gain experience across multiple areas of R&D, including gene therapy, pharmacology, and translational biology, both internally and externally.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute preclinical studies to evaluate efficacy of AAV vectors for treatment of retinal disease
  • Conduct in vitro experiments, including cell culture maintenance, transfection, and expression analysis using standard cell/molecular biological methods
  • Assist with management of in vivo studies performed by academic partners and CRO(s)
  • Optimize and perform downstream assays on AAV-treated retina tissue to assess transgene delivery, expression, and pharmacological effects
  • Work collaboratively with Gemini team members and external partners to generate high-quality data that advance assets in our pipeline
  • Maintain current knowledge of emerging technologies and scientific approaches in the gene therapy space, particularly with regard to AAV vectors
  • Prepare summaries of data and present internally to colleagues and management
  • Develop and follow protocols, diligently documenting experimental data in electronic lab notebooks and authoring scientific reports for internal documentation or regulatory submissions.
  • Actively support a culture of innovation, learning, respect, and trust

Qualifications:

  • PhD., or equivalent, in the life sciences with preferably > 2 years of post-doctoral experience
  • Experience with standard biochemistry and cell/molecular biology methods, including transfection of cultured cells, western blotting, ELISA, qRT-PCR, and/or IHC/ISH is required
  • Familiarity with retinal biology/ophthalmic disease, associated procedures, and imaging techniques (e.g., OCT, FAF) is required
  • Hands-on experience with AAV vector design, molecular cloning, and evaluating activity in vitro and/or in vivo is a plus
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to allow effective division of time between lab work, data analysis, and interaction with external partners
  • Experience supporting a multidisciplinary project team, including generating high-quality data in a time-sensitive environment, assimilating new information from multiple sources, and effectively communicating with internal and external scientists
  • Creative, self-motivated, and able to work independently on data analysis, troubleshooting, and identifying solutions to complex research challenges
