The R & D team at Resilience is looking for a Director of Platform Development, Cell Engineering & Genomics 

This role will operate as the Group Lead for the Cell Line Engineering and Genomics team and will be responsible for defining the vision and overseeing all process development and technical efforts with the group.  

The Group Lead will assemble and manage a team of diverse, multidisciplinary scientists and engineers to advance our understanding and capabilities in cell therapy process development and usage across a wide range of complex medicine manufacturing needs. The Group Lead will facilitate collaboration across the R&D organization and across Resilience.  

What you’ll do 

  • Lay the groundwork for process development approaches, including but not limited to: 
  • Development of new process/project to assess cell therapies and other process parameters 
  • Work closely with other technical teams and leadership to create a complete technical and experimental roadmap 
  • Provide technical support to other technical teams within R&D on related topics and technical problems 
  • Maintain a state-of-the-art expertise on current methods and technologies, routinely monitoring new information sources in academic and trade literature 
  • Handle multiple projects, seeing obvious overlaps to make the implementation process more efficient and standardized 
  • Evaluate critical tradeoffs and make decisions on resource requirements and allocations to set high-level initiative goals  
  • Develop and operate a culture of rapid innovation and learning 
  • Interface with platform management teams and other teams within National Resilience to understand what should be built and how it will be used 


  • PhD (preferred) or Masters in a Life Science or Biology-oriented discipline. 
  • 10 + years’ experience developing, and implementing cell therapy systems, processes, or advanced cell engineering or genomics systems. 
  • 5 + years of managing a technical team of scientists / engineers. 
  • 5 + years of experience in optimizing laboratory methods and workflows and scaling up molecular biology assays to enable high-throughput laboratory operations. 
  • Deep understanding of methods and systems used in biomanufacturing or Deep understanding of essential molecular biology and methods such as PCR, purification, gel electrophoresis, analysis tools and instrumentation, DNA quantitation, and quality control is required.  
  • Skilled at writing clear SOPs and Validation reports, and experience with quality management, including design control, and risk analysis and mitigation strategies. 
  • Multiple, medium-sized (quarter-long or greater) projects running at the same time is something you are used to, both as an individual contributor and as project coordinator, and you’re looking to take on more 
  • You understand how important well-defined qualifications are to the life-cycle of a product - IQ/OQ/PQ aren’t just letters, they are a way of life  
  • You are familiar with the experimental and documentation overheads that come with being in a regulatory environment (cGxP, CLIA, CAP, ISO) 

Nice to have 

  • You have a deep appreciation of the painstaking attention to detail required to deeply characterize cell lines and the products of. 
  • Hands-on scientist experienced with adapting and validating assays for automated processes and continuous workflows. 
  • No matter how simple the protocol, you’ve taken the time to understand the steps, constraints, and missing characterization work prior to creating a supportable version for production 
  • Getting a good result once doesn’t cut it - you’re always after a robust process that executes well each and every time (and if it doesn’t, knowing immediately why)
