Job Description

A fast-growing start-up revolutionising the Design Industry, a market worth over $700bn annually. Eporta is an online tool where architects, interior designers and other businesses can discover high-design furniture, lighting and accessories and purchase directly from suppliers. We power 2 product offerings; a B2B marketplace where buyers and sellers can meet to source products and transact, alongside a SaaS tool allowing suppliers to digitise their operational workflow and start selling products online - something they typically cannot do today given the traditional nature of this industry.

We have users in over 80 countries, so our business is already truly global. We have a number of high profile investors including a large US venture capital fund, Guy Hands (founder of Terra Firma) and the founders of Zoopla, Betfair, sofa.com and Achica.

About the Role

This is a broad role that stretches beyond pure Finance and into HR, Legal and Operations. You will be at the helm of a business that is both a Marketplace and SaaS company, on a trajectory for significant growth. We are looking for someone smart, ambitious, and eager to grow with the business.

As Head of Finance and Operations, you will be designing and implementing controls and processes to help the business scale, and help it mitigate risk where necessary.

The role will be a central figure ensuring the business runs smoothly where you will help break down barriers and solve problems as they arise, ensuring that the team and company can help deliver value to our customers.

Working closely with the Senior Team, you will ensure department heads are on budget and collaborate with them to make decisions that help grow the business.

You Are

Whilst your career started in Finance, you can demonstrate that you thrive in uncertain environments and able to apply your core skills to similar disciplines across the business, i.e. Legal, HR and Operations.

You are eager to learn new things big or small and aren’t afraid to roll up your sleeves and challenge the status quo.


  • Manage all transactional finance including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Banking, Credit Control and Taxes;
  • Provide financial support to internal stakeholders such as, cost monitoring, VAT & Sales Tax queries, Import Tariffs and collating and reviewing data;
  • Play a significant role in long-term planning, including an initiative geared toward operational excellence;
  • Manage month end and year-end closure procedures with our Bookkeeper;
  • Build and improve internal control processes to enhance discipline and increase operational efficiency;
  • Serve as primary legal representative in addressing legal issues including Sales, Supply, Employment, Financial;
  • Be responsible for operational HR, including Offboarding, Onboarding, Contracts, and Payroll;
  • Oversee organizational insurance policies;
  • Maintain and review all office policies and procedures, including Health & safety, environmental and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation.

Skills and Experience you have

  • A qualified accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA, or equivalent) with 4+ years experience;
  • Managed and understand cross-border trade with all its intricacies including a good understanding of post-Brexit trade for Goods and Services;
  • Strong knowledge of compliance, where you’re able to prepare and lodge without 3rd party assistance. Including but not limited to Financial Statements, Corporate Tax inc. R&D Tax Credits and Companies House filings;
  • An understanding of SaaS metrics and experience working at startups in roles such as Finance Manager, Financial Controller or similar;
  • Exceptional attention to detail, making sure quality and standards are met;
  • Experience of Xero or similar accounting software;
  • Strong, clear communication skills - both verbal and written.
