( IHC ) Scientist – Analytical Sciences


Affinia Therapeutics is seeking an experienced Histotechnologist to join our Analytical Science laboratory team. You will be part of a group dedicated to the advancement of therapeutic products based on vectors derived from our unique AAV therapeutic platform. As a member of the Analytical Sciences laboratory, you will contribute to the development of fit-for-purpose analytical assays to support our preclinical and translational activities, analyze samples and work cross-functionally with other laboratory groups to generate data and transfer methods as needed. You will contribute to evaluation of new analytical technologies and development of more efficient laboratory workflows to maintain a culture of quality and excellence.

This position is located at the Affinia Therapeutics site in Waltham, MA.


 Primary Responsibilities


  • Lead the development of fit-for-purpose histopathology and immunohistochemistry methods to support manufacturing, preclinical and translational activities. Perform analysis of samples using qualified analytical methods.
  • Execute validation activities for select analytical methods according to appropriate guidelines (GMP, GLP, GCP, ICH, CLSI). Coordinate transfer of qualified assay methods to cross-functional colleagues and CMO/CRO partners.
  • Execute method development, validation and testing to meet deadlines for program milestones.
  • Implement new laboratory workflows and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Mentor junior scientists and oversee day-to-day testing activities in the lab.


Minimum Qualifications


  • Ph.D., M.S. or equivalent degree in a relevant scientific area.
  • Minimum 6 years of industry experience developing histopathology and immunohistochemistry-based analytical methods.
  • Experience with tissue sectioning, automated staining platforms, confocal microscopy and digital image analysis software.
  • A strong record of demonstrating analytical reasoning and creative problem-solving skills in a laboratory environment, including common statistical analysis methods and software related to method development and validation.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills, including experience writing laboratory SOPs, protocols and reports.


Preferred Qualifications


  • ASCP certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL).
  • Previous experience working in a quality-regulated laboratory environment.
  • Previous experience managing junior scientists in the laboratory
