Vir Biotechnology seeks a highly talented and motivated scientist to develop novel therapies for addressing unmet medical need in infectious diseases. This person will play a critical role in integrating the Company’s platform technologies into best-in-class anti-microbial products. This person will have significant interactions with other research departments for developing and leading new research strategies across multiple different viral and/or bacterial pathogens. Experience and understanding of diverse microbial pathogens, immunology, and CRISPR screening technologies are preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

    • Designs and performs studies to identify cellular and immune mechanisms responsible for prevention and control of diverse infections
    • Plans, validates and executes cutting-edge CRISPR screening technologies to identify novel targets for host-directed therapeutics.
    • Builds and manages internal and external resources to promote a best-in-class immunology and microbiology infrastructure to support innovation, product development, and clinical trial efforts.
    • Serves as a contributor in Vir’s Research organization across programs, serving as a host-directed therapy liaison between Research and other departments.
    • Advises and implements best methods and scientific innovation in project plans and design.
    • Applies in-depth knowledge of scientific methods, both quantitative and qualitative.
    • Performs scientific research of considerable scope and complexity.
    • Records day-to-day activities and accurate records of experimental details and results related to assigned projects.
    • Presents scientific work in peer-reviewed journals and at meetings.
    • May provide scientific leadership to Research Scientists and Research Associates.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    • MD and/or PhD and 1+ year of relevant industry/academic experience with focus in cell & molecular biology, virology or immunology. Some postdoctoral experience is preferred.
    • Must have a fundamental understanding of scientific method and specialized methods and procedures in the area of expertise.
    • Experience in working on host-pathogen interaction or innate immunity is preferred.
    • Highly productive and organized in terms of number and volume of scientific projects responsible for, involved with, and consulting on.
    • Must be a creative yet critical thinker, and able to work with direction (moving towards independence) to determine appropriate resources for resolution of problems. Strong organizational and planning skills will be necessary for success in this position.
