About Clay

Clay brings together the most powerful capabilities of spreadsheets, data-enrichment and workflow automations to build the first spreadsheet that fills itself.

Job Description

Hey there

Thanks for taking the time to learn a little more about Clay, a Series A Brooklyn based start-up building the first spreadsheet that fills itself. We're small but mighty, backed by some of the world's best investors, and excited to grow our team in this next phase of our journey.

The product vision

At Clay, we believe that the mundane can be automated away, that each individual is deeply creative, and that there is immense possibility in expanding this creativity by making programming more accessible.

At its core, we are building a new type of platform that allows both engineers and non-engineers to easily work with data, assemble individual custom workflows, and flexibly automate core business processes. We often talk of Clay as a fluid computational canvas that lets everyone get more done, with less engineering time required — starting with a spreadsheet.

Storytelling @ Clay

We sometimes call Clay an unreasonable product because of the wild & unreasonable automations our users are able to build. Writing for a spectrum of technical and non-technical users, our Technical Writer role is focused on empowering our early users through next level documentation, actionable use cases and, once in a while, flavourful pieces around the future of software ✨.

πŸ‘‹πŸΏπŸ‘‹πŸΎπŸ‘‹πŸ½πŸ‘‹πŸΌπŸ‘‹πŸ» At Clay, we hold two things to be true as we grow our team — hiring is more about the person and less about the description; diverse teams build the strongest, most meaningful products. We are committed to building a team that reflects these beliefs, and cannot wait to speak with you.

About you.

  • Prior experience. 2-4 years working in a content development role, seeing pieces through from ideation to publishing, whether internal or external.
  • Communication. You have strong communication skills, both copywriting skills and creativity in delivering information, and have a lifelong affinity for wordsmithing.
  • Empathy. We care deeply about those in the Clay community and are often thought partners as they come to us for advice on their go to market or growth strategies. Your empathize for users is a driver in the things you write and how you write them.
  • Proactive. You're self-motivated, get things done, and enjoy developing and sharing your own perspectives new tools, products and use cases in the market.

Nice to haves.

  • B2B SaaS experience. You've worked with a B2B SaaS product before and enjoy tackling technical concepts and ramping up on the intricacies of a technical product.
  • Publicly available writing samples. You may have written internal documentation only, but if available we'd love to see some of your public writing (may be a blog, think pieces, etc).
  • Technical background. Most of our user team have a technical background — if you have a technical background but also love being close to users we're happy to explore with you!

Working @ Clay

Based out of a spacious sunlit loft in Williamsburg, we're big on taking care of our team and always excited to hear different ideas that can help us to do this better.

  • Competitive salary and role trajectory. Roles, responsibilities, and comp grow as we do. ****
  • Health insurance. Fully funded, high quality health, dental, vision and life insurance, as well as company-sponsored 401(k) coverage.
  • Flexible schedules and paid time off. We ask team members to take at least 2 weeks fully-disconnected per year, and our vacation policy is flexible beyond that.
  • Mental health. We'll help you find coaches, mentors and mental-health services, as we want to make sure everyone on the team has access to this support.
  • Annual company retreats. Last year we took our roadmap exploration to Costa Rica — this year COVID put a wrench in our retreat to Hawaii.
  • Visa sponsorship. We get it - it's an arduous process, but we're not scared of it.
  • Remote work. We've hired remotely during and before COVID, and have teammates on both coasts, although we prefer people being in-person where possible.
  • Personal comfort. Order the equipment and home set you think will help you work more enjoyably.
