In April 2019, Bevy acquired CMX which is the world’s largest network of community professionals. CMX offers world-class training, events and research.

The Role

The Director of Engineering is responsible for managing and growing multiple teams of engineers, setting strategies and objectives and providing expert guidance around our engineering initiatives. This role will oversee the software engineering function in developing, releasing, and maintaining software applications and systems based on company goals.  Utilizing engineering methods, this role will also focus on establishing processes and policies that produce high-quality software products and services that have high availability, are robustly scalable and extremely fault tolerant in the cloud.  

The Director of Engineering will direct and supervise a team as well as provide cross-functional team leadership to ensure deliverables are aligned with company-wide initiatives and goals. This position reports to the VP of Engineering and contributes to the strategic framework and decision making in an effort to set long term company-wide strategies.


  • Define and drive our technical software architecture, design roadmap and enterprise capabilities (scalability, fault tolerance, extensibility, maintainability, etc.)
  • Build, manage, and retain teams of highly motivated and talented engineers by providing hands-on leadership, guidance, and mentorship; ensuring a high level of work satisfaction, technical advancement and progress towards individual career goals 
  • Manage inter-project and inter-organization dependencies to ensure smooth communication and collaboration 
  • Assist in removing technical obstacles, enhance team processes, direct and manage engineering resource allocation, schedules and budget and set well defined goals and timelines to achieve against these goals 
  • Leverage agile and CI/CD methodologies to conceptualize, design, develop and document software
  • Collaborate closely with senior engineering team leadership to define long-term organizational strategies and structure 
  • Define, develop and track core metrics for the engineering team; focus on improving and strengthening processes and procedures across a variety of functions and teams within the engineering team
  • Employ knowledge of open source tools and technologies with a focus on using and extending them towards developing solutions 
  • Work closely across teams to help facilitate defining dependencies, requirements, and timelines

What we’re looking for:

  • 10 years of experience with server-side and web-based development 
  • Experience building and managing cross functional engineering teams; experience managing remote teams a plus
  • A proven track record of building and deploying highly available, large scale, high performing multi-tenant SaaS applications
  • Proven experience with containerization technology such as Docker 
  • Experience with container orchestration systems such as Kubernetes/Mesos 
  • Experience with Agile (Scrum, Kanban, Lean) and Test Driven Development 
  • 5 years of experience with RESTful API development 
  • 5 years of experience with cloud providers like Google Cloud, AWS
  • Azure Experience with RDBMS - MySQL and other related tools 
  • Strong customer focus and excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
  • You reside in North or South America. Yes, we are a distributed company, but since we are still small, we like to minimize the time zone spread within the team
  • You are an excellent communicator. You need to be able to articulate complex ideas efficiently and effectively. When people do not share an office, it is essential to pay extra attention to communication & speak up.
