About the Position
The Chief Accounting Officer will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer. The role requires an intelligent leader who can oversee, mentor and further develop a best-in-class accounting department. This person will be a communicative, forward-thinking leader who can handle complex issues and drive meaningful change. Additionally, this person will be an important facilitator of the company’s positive culture to the accounting team and drive both transparency and partnership with business leaders. About Finance at FiscalNote
As we ramp up in revenue, team size, and outside investments, our Finance team ensures clarity, consistency, and transparency surrounding our rapidly advancing financial position. Charged to understand growth companies and SaaS finance and accounting, the Finance team acts as the bastion of FiscalNote stability with its finger always on the pulse of the company’s financial affairs and operations.  

What to Expect in this Position:

    • Partnering with the CFO to determine accounting and tax implications for all material business decisions
    • Reviewing all documentation and contracts in order to develop and improve internal controls
    • Assisting with quarterly financial reporting - including drafting and reviewing SEC documents, ensuring quality, and administering strict timeline
    • Overseeing tax compliance and strategy, as well as, capital assets
    • Managing transaction accounting, SOX, the closing process, and other financial controls
    • Overseeing General Ledger functions; assure accuracy, timeliness, and conformity with professional accounting standards and best practices in accordance with GAAP
    • Acting as a liaison to external auditing firms ensuring the delivery of timely audits following PCAOB guidance while owning primary responsibility for the Company’s views on technical accounting matters
    • Collaborating and contributing to the Senior Leadership Team and BOD to improve overall company performance
    • Working with senior management to ensure internal compliance

What Sets You Apart:

    • Bachelor’s degree preferable in Finance, Business, Accounting, Economics, or related field; CPA required 15+ years
    • Minimum 10-15 years of progressive accounting experience, with a minimum of 5 years of meaningful management/leadership experience and  4-5 years in a Controller and/or Chief Accounting Officer position
    • Expert knowledge of financial activities, policies, and processes, including multi-currency consolidations, SEC reporting, and Sarbanes-Oxley implementation and management to ensure effective internal controls over financial reporting
    • Systems and integration experience with Netsuite, Adaptive, SalesForce and Ultipro strongly preferred
    • Extensive audit experience, preferably with a public accounting firm and a strong understanding of both internal and external processes and best practices
    • Experience navigating and advising on complex transactions like financial derivatives, revenue recognition, lease accounting, stock incentives and business combinations
    • Previous experience with private-equity backed company and/or experience with multiple acquisitions/integrations experience highly desired
    • Experience managing international accounting functions at both a corporate and a business unit-level for a global publicly-traded company, including consolidating US and non-US financial statements rolling up to the corporate level
    • Experience presenting to Board of Directors, Audit Committees and other internal and external decision-makers
    • Strong leadership skills and an ability to build trusted advisor relationships is critical
    • Experience in talent development (hiring, training, and mentoring)Significant first-hand experience with public company reporting/PCAOB
    • Nimble mindset with ability to work successfully in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced and international environment
    • Sharp, forward-thinking problem solver with high standards of excellence and able to manage and motivate a team to deliver the same
    • A demonstrated history of solving multiple and complex challenges through critical thinking and requiring cross-functional collaboration
    • Ability to drive and influence change in a respectful manner with excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to gain the trust and confidence of others quickly, and lead by example.
