Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
The candidate will design and conduct scientific experiments to profile and characterise cells and tissues used across a wide range of groups in Research. The aim is to provide a deep and consistent characterisation of cells and tissues that are used within Research, to aid translation of projects from Research into Development and hopefully to the clinic.

The Senior Scientist will be expected to work independently in both the conduct and analysis of their experiments, communicating data effectively, and be a role model for colleagues and junior scientists. The postholder will require good experience and in depth knowledge of a variety of cell biology and profiling techniques such as flow cytometry, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics, and cell functionality assays.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Independently design and conduct experiments to ensure robust and meaningful data generation. 
• Analyse, summarise and record experimental results. Interpret and communicate data to stakeholders.
• Participate in group and project meetings and discussions.
• Contribute to routine lab maintenance
• If available and appropriate project work-stream leadership/management and/or supervision of other junior scientists or technicians

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required
• Relevant post-graduate experience, including a PhD in a relevant scientific area, with experience in an industrial/biotech environment. 
• Extensive relevant experience of cell biology laboratory procedures.
• In depth knowledge of a variety of cell biology and profiling techniques such as flow cytometry, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics, and/or cell functionality assays
• Ability to work independently on routine experiments.
• Ability to learn and develop in order to work independently on more complex experiments within a reasonable time frame.

Desirable 
• An in depth understanding of the relevant scientific area such as oncology and/or immunology
• Experience working to GCLP, including understanding of HTA requirements and working to validated bioanalytical SOPs

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

Required
• Computer literate and ability to familiarise with different IT systems.
• Excellent numeracy and English language skills (both written and verbal).
• Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
• Ability to follow protocols.
• Ability to design experiments and studies to address key scientific questions.
• High attention to detail, good time management skills.  
• Able to work independently after minimal training.
• Strong team player but with the ability to work independently as well.

Desirable
• Familiarity with more specialist lab equipment. 
• Work-stream leadership and planning experience.
