Job Description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
Adaptimmune is a leader in TCR T-cell therapy, focused on developing novel cancer immunotherapy products. With 3 wholly owned SPEAR T-cell products in clinical trials (ADP-A2M4, ADP-A2M4CD8, and ADP-A2AFP) in multiple solid tumor indications, the Company is undergoing a period of expansion to increase our capabilities to deliver our therapies to patients with cancer. 

We are searching for a talented, passionate scientist to join our high performing Phage Display team. The goal of the phage display department is to deliver lead candidate TCRs against our target portfolio for preclinical development. This is an excellent opportunity for you to help us with our mission to deliver novel SPEAR T-cell therapies to patients with cancer. Within Phage Display, you will have the opportunity to trial novel technologies, refine our proprietary TCR discovery processes and collaborate on multi-disciplinary projects with the aim of delivering prospective TCR candidates for pre-clinical development.  

Our ideal candidate will have previous industry experience using display technologies, with a collaborative, proactive and innovative mindset.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Support the isolation of T-cell receptors through construction and screening of phage display libraries.
• Collaborate on multi-functional projects from TCR identification to pre-clinical candidate selection.
• Develop and implement novel methods to streamline TCR discovery approaches.
• Maintain an up-to date knowledge of scientific literature with respect to display technologies.
• Communicate progress to Protein Sciences Division and wider research organisation.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Required
• Degree in Life Sciences or related discipline, and preferably an MSc or PhD.
• Significant relevant post-graduate experience in phage display, including experience gained in the pharma biotech sector.
• In-depth and up to date understanding of the use of phage display.
• In-depth and up to date understanding of building high quality phage display libraries.
• Experienced in cell, molecular biology and immunological techniques for characterisation of prospective TCR candidates.
• Demonstrable ability to design experiments and studies to address key scientific questions.

Desirable 
• Multi-vector display systems.
• Selections against multiple target types. 
• Experience with process optimisation and automation.
• Project management.

Required
• Excellent scientific knowledge and drive. 
• Ability to make sound and timely recommendations, to prioritize, to plan projects and deliver to timelines. 
• Strong team player with ability to work in cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
• High attention to detail, good time management skills.
• Excellent numeracy and English language skills (both written and verbal).

Desirable
• Familiarity with more specialist lab equipment such as robotics.
• Familiarity with flow cytometry.
• Familiarity with NGS technologies and data analysis.
