About Styra

Developer of a platform designed to eliminate operational, security, and compliance risk.

Job Description

At Styra we are creating a new category of services designed to help businesses take control of their cloud operations. We empower people and software to make reliable authorization decisions in dynamic, complex, and large-scale environments with tools that provide direct, real-time visibility and control over applications and infrastructure. Styra is the company behind the extremely fast-growing Open Policy Agent (OPA) open source project – delivering industry leading commercial / SaaS software, built on OPA, for cloud-native environments.

Our growing team is looking for a passionate, enterprising, customer-focused solutions architect to partner with the sales team to drive the modernization of cloud-native security through Styra’s enterprise and open-source solutions. As part of the solutions architecture team you will build a technical trusted advisor relationship with potential customers through education, presentation, demonstration, and proof-of-concept of emergent security, policy, and authorization solutions using Styra technologies. You will utilize your rare combination of deep technical skill, business insight, and domain expertise to identify and communicate, to both engineers and executives, the value that Styra can provide in their cloud-native environments.

The work is ambitious, stimulating, and evolving all the time. An eye for detail, technical acumen to match, and a relentless focus on our users will be critical as you transform ideas into tangible solutions.

Primary Responsibilities

Working closely with the rest of the Styra team, you will:

  • Support the Styra sales teams to help customers understand the value of Styra products and solutions
  • Build and deliver presentations, demos and proof-of-concepts to demonstrate the use of OPA and Styra technology
  • Understand customer requirements for specific use cases and help customers design architectures and solutions using Styra technologies
  • Work hands-on with customer developers and system engineers to integrate, deploy and leverage OPA and Styra products
  • Understand customer technical objections and work with the sales team to develop the strategies to resolve
  • Communicate customer technical requirements to Styra product management and engineering teams; be the customer advocate for the product roadmap
  • Be the technical point of contact for prospective customers, and have the ability to both advise and troubleshoot the use of Styra solutions in complex technical environments
  • Represent Styra’s technology at trade shows, and craft technical content to present at conferences, meetups, and local events. Travel to customer sites and events as required*

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in pre-sales engineering, or equivalent experience in a customer-facing solutions architect role
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly and concisely on complex technical topics, and deliver effective technical presentations
  • Experience in the authorization/access control and security space as a developer, systems engineer or operator
  • Experience with modern application development and strong knowledge in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Go or Python
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent experience
  • Based in Europe

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in software development, engineering, operations, or equivalent role
  • Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, containers, and public cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Azure, etc)
  • Experience with Service Mesh (e.g. Envoy, Istio, Kuma) and API Gateway (e.g. Kong, Apigee) technologies
  • Familiarity with Open Policy Agent and the Rego policy language
  • Familiarity with emerging technologies and the CNCF technology landscape, and ability to quickly learn new technologies and solutions
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, or related field

* Currently all Styra business travel is suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.
