Job Description

IonQ is looking for a quantum systems architect to help further advance our state-of-the-art trapped ion quantum computer. You’ll work closely with quantum technologists and R&D staff to work on various system-level aspects of designing, constructing, and operating large-scale trapped ion quantum computers. We’re looking for people who are self-motivated, self-directed, and innovative, with a great attitude and work ethic.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and specifying achievable hardware, firmware, and software requirements at a systems level that, together, will lead to state-of-the-art trapped ion quantum computing systems in short-, medium-, and long-term timeframes 
  • Leading studies and facilitating discussions to efficiently arrive at practical solutions to quantum architecture challenges through close collaboration with quantum technologists, theoretical and experimental physicists, electrical and software engineers, and more

                

Required Skills/Education:

  • Doctorate degree in computer science, systems engineering, physics, or relevant field
  • Demonstrated experience in directly working with quantum technologies
  • A record of doing system-wide analysis of quantum computing architectures.
  • Success working collaboratively in a diverse team environment

                    

Desired Skills/Education:

  • Working knowledge of AMO physics
  • Working knowledge of ion trapping
  • Experience with real-time operating systems
  • Working knowledge of quantum error correction and/or quantum algorithms
  • Experience building modeling and simulation tools for classical or quantum architectures
