Job Description

We at Volocopter are pioneers in the development of electrical air taxis that take off and land vertically (eVTOLs). We bring Urban Air Mobility to life, by establishing air taxis in addition to current transportation options in megacities globally. Our aim is to offer affordable on-demand air taxi services and save people time by flying them safely to their destination. In 2011 we performed the first-ever piloted flight of a purely electrical multicopter and have since showcased numerous public flights with our full-scale Volocopter (www.volocopter.com).

Job Description

Your future Volocopter crew:

Within a highly motivated, multi-disciplinary core team you are in charge of managing the development and prototyping of Volocopters next generation and its technologies.

Reporting to our Chief Engineer Volo Next Generation, you are a key member of the development team located in central munich.

Your mission during this flight:

  • Lead the design, development and validation of the flight control system for a new category of aircraft. 
  • Manage system interfaces. 
  • Support and advise test and flight test activities from subscale to full scale within your perimeter. 
  • Develop and adapt the flight control and flight control law chains for transformative aircraft. 
  • Develop control algorithms for transition and aircraft component failure cases. 
  • Implement designed flight control algorithms on to the aircraft flight control system hardware. 
  • Prepare and execute the validation of the flight control system including analysis (SIL/HIL/iron bird). 
  • Manage the tool environment for you field. 
  • Support the test team as required to explore and validate technical solutions.
  • Manage and ensure proper integration and validation of the flight control system together with the avionic system.


Check in your professional skills:

  • Excellent knowledge of transition aircrafts in flight control strategies
  • M. Sc. in robotics/aeronautics/engineering/physics/informatics or similar degree
  • Min. 2 years of professional experience in robotics, flight control development, X-by-wire systems, control allocation methods / algorithms
  • Min. 2 year of experience in aeromechanics or relevant field
  • Hands-on attitude with a broad range of development experience
  • Strong background in applied mathematics and optimization
  • In depth experience in control allocation methods for multi-functional controls and fixed wing aircraft beneficial
  • In depth experience with flight system dynamics, flight control, (non-) linear control systems
  • Experience with flight testing is a benefit
  • Flight test data acquisition methodologies is a benefit
  • Tool experience in CAD is a benefit
  • Excellent skills in Matlab/Simulink and C/C++
  • Experience with system engineering tasks e.g. writing system/subsystem level requirements and implementing requirement traceability.
  • Basic knowledge in design assurance levels.
  • Structured way of working, high sense of responsibility and accountability
  • Teamplay, self-starter, flexibility
  • Very good English language skills (written & spoken), very good German language skills is a benefit
